I spoke to Julie a while ago, just looked through the info she sent me amd the forecast suggests picking up 100 customers a month. Now I wouldnt have much problem doing that as I am a canvasser but for someone coming into the business I just think its unrealistic. If you have been going 18 months with 400 customers it proves my point....

so are you a canvasser or a WC?  if you re a pro canvasser perhaps you could help me out?

Of course it does, it looks very attractive when pitching a 20k franchise to say you can turnover a hundred grand from one van. Its not real!

I am a canvasser who used to be a window cleaner...

I canvass everyday for a living, I know how it works...

How does your experience show her figures work? You are 18 months in with 400 customers, by her reckoning you should have 1800!

Hold on why would you say that? It was a serious question cos I cant see why a fire anywhere else would put you so far behind...

if you cannot see how a fire in a business would have a dramatic effect on that business, "unless it was in a van", it speaks volumes about you and your general sense.

the office that burned down was our local enterprise centre and around 50 businesses who's offices were there were effected.  2 businesses stopped trading immediately, and over a year on only 30 businesses remain in some form.  Many of these are struggling and i expect many more will close over the next year.

In fairness, the only vital information that could affect growth for a wc is the customer database. As long as this or equipment wasn't lost, I can't see how it would have a huge impact.

the simple answer is lack of money and lack of time.

the fire cost me a massive amount of money and meant i have had to lay staff off including WC, canvassers, and admin staff.

the staff that remained spent much of their time putting the customer database back together.

if i was a man with a van business then it would be different but i am not and so the impact was huge, and in fact it still is huge.  the effect has probably knocked me back 2 or 3 years i recon

Why are you trying to say I have no common sense?

You never explained anything and just said it was a fire, am I supposed to guess?

As for it affecting the window cleaning business I agree with steve, I sold a round with nearly 400 customers and could have took you to every single house. You are not that big and saying its put you three years behind is amazing. The thing about a simple business like window cleaning is the van could have been out earning you money the very next day especially if you had staff.

I have run and been involved in bigger business so dont just assume I have been a window cleaner all my life and think you can lord it over me cos you think you are bigger and better. You are not....

Thats my last word on the matter because I am not getting into a petty arguement.

that is very impressive if you think you could, but of course what you think you could do, and what you could actually do are often rather different things.  what made it harder than this is the fact that it was snowing heavily so houses looked differnent, the rounds were very new, and even when you know the house you dont have details of the price, of their last clean date, their contact detials etc etc

i also said in the same thread that i had 2 businesses so it is not a simple business in just WC.

our WC was out cleaning the same day as the fire but this doesnt solve the main problems

i didn't assume that you have been a window cleaner all your life.  you mentioned yourself that you are not a window cleaner any longer so that much is obvious.  what i assume is that you dont have a lot of insight and probably not a great deal of empathy :o

i dont think that at all.  i do however think that you clearly do not have any insight into what effect a fire can have that destroys your back office.  now as you said you never had a fire, but i would have thought that most reasonably astute people would be able to imagine that an event such as this would have a massive effect on a business.

well in keeping with the petty argument i would say that you started it :P but i am pleased that that was your last word  :-*

I wouldnt worry richard about gd or anyone.. Jealousy springs to mind...
Gd you are a typical window cleaning canvasser( a window cleaner who couldnt hack it or control a round properly) richard even said he would use your services so i dont understand why you doubt him so much???. To have left a 400 customer round to start canvassing is utter madness i bet you was on a grand a week or thereabouts.. Please explain why you sold up and gave in to knock doors for a living instead of regular repeat work and pay???

I sold it for really good money to help me set up my social media business. Its really funny when people question things that the first conclusion you jump to is jealousy. I am not jealous of anyone on here, I am happy with my lot in life and where I am on a personal and business level. I want more and will get it....

As for leaving an income, I can earn more running a successful canvassing company plain and simple.

Ask my clients or anyone that has met me, I will be the biggest and best canvassing and marketing company in the uk. I already have too much work and have started the recruitment proccess.

I will always put my money where my mouth is and back it up with real and tangable results....
