They are not allowed to sell non ce marked gas heaters in the EU. Coming as as a gift avoids this.

No, that's nothing to do with it. Anything over £18.00 coming from outside the EU is subject to duty and vat. An exception to that is if the item is a gift, then you are not charged.

The customs int his country are not so hot on CE markings anyway, the mark means nothing on its own anyway. If it was coming into the likes of Germany, now that would be a different matter.

If that's the case start a business importing and selling them. You should do quite well. Or put it another way, why has no one else done this and why are there no UK suppliers?

Importing in bulk to sell on is a different matter to importing one marked as a gift.

You would still have no problem getting them into the country, where you may have a problem is your competitors would report you to trading standards and your stock would be seized, that is of course assuming that your point regarding CE marking has any validity.

You are allowed opinions on here. You are even allowed opinions when they are factually incorrect, or inaccurate. But  by Giving bad, or even any, advise on gas appliancesand you are entering a grey area though. If you are in charge of a professional trade body such as the guild then I think you should be cautious whatever your personal opinions are.

Point Taken Clive!

I advise everybody to research the CE mark requirements as they relate to 12 volt portable devices, and draw their own conclusions,.....

re van insurance and security:

i'm with A-plan and chris stone told me that there is no extra charge for using a propane heater in your van (may differ for other companies?)

as for leaving the doos open, you could have a caged door fabricated inside one of the side doors, or two inside the back doors.

Heaters in, fitted and now pumping hot water :) :) :)

Very easy to fit, fired up first time - takes about a minute for the water to make its way through the reel, and about 2 minutes to reach the desired temp.

The only thing I have noticed with mine is that it will only fire up, with the water regulator set at its lowest setting.

I'm still getting a good flow rate , so I'm not too concerned.

Alan, does yours do this?

I need to get some longer hosing to make a neat job of it, a piece of chequer plate behind the heater would look more professional, and  find a tidy solution to secure the gas bottle.

But its up and running.... so looking forward to next weeks work. :)
