brushes
« on: February 19, 2011, 02:54:01 pm »

 Hi
There have been several threads recently about brushes one is now getting on for  hundred posts long, i know its subjective. but iam trying to chrystalize what i should get as i want new poles and hoses for the summer.

I have settled on the clx for pole. but i have read that many opinions for brushes.

 1.Tekbuk ariel is best

 2. gardners supa lite is best

 3. supalite mono for first cleans

 4. vikan sill brush for first cleans

 5. supalite flocked 15 degree for maintenance cleans

i dont want to start the whole thing again, but could someone say why they feel one is better than the other. and what is the difference between flocked and not and wht 15 degree?

cheers

 john

Weight is a major issue, size is another.

Vikans are good brushes but too heavy & bulky with the sill brush being like a breeze block.

Aeriels are light but over-splayed & some of their claims on their website are, let's say, very debatable at the very least! Doesn't instill confidence.

Super lites are very light but as a newbie you're probably overwhelmed by the choice & descriptions?

In 7 years wfp the brushes I've used are-

Unger flocked
Vikan oval flocked 10"
Vikan oval flocked 16"
Vikan rectangular flocked
Vikan rectangular mono
Various Salmons
Gaz swivel (Salmon mono)
Cleantech's own brush
Pro-window dual trim
The new style Vikan flocked 10"
SL DT mono
SL ST mono
SL DT flocked standard splay
SL DT flocked 15 degree splay
SL DT flocked 0 degree splay
SL Xtreme 10"

These are just the ones I can immediately remember.

All I use now are Super lites (SL), my advice to you, in your circumstances & with the CLX pole is to go for the SL DT semi flocked (flocked) either 15 degree or 0 degree.

The "degree" refers to the angle that the bristles protrude from the stock at. Standard = wide splay, 15 = a gentle splay & 0 = no splay. The less splay, the more accuracy you have with the brush, which IMO is very important.

Hope that helps a little ;D

My advice is get a vikan sill and a  red aeriel brush nobody likes the vikan because it makes there arms hurt ;D
I've strong arms so I find it a great brush and the superlite poope as it just bounces off the glass and scratches sills and frames.
Aeriel is amazing brush.much quicker to use than  the rest and cleans glass really well as it does sills and frames.

So how can you comment  on a aeriel brush? You've never used one have you?

The same way you can comment on all SEVEN super lites when you haven't used them! ;)

What brush do you use now? Brushes are a personal one persons love is anothers hate.

Mono bristles are solid, they don't hold the dirt, flocked are softer and the tips are crushed/split so they hold the dirt more, but if you rinse off the glass it doesn't matter, but they have a different feel to each other.

Me I use the red aerial and the DT mono. IMO a cross between the 2 would be perfect.

When were they purchased as they have been through at least 3 generations?

There is a big difference between Gardiners SL mono and flocked brush.

The mono IMO is poor at scrubbing.

The flocked SL (have only used the 15 degree) is the best brush at scrubbing I have used and it is nice and light. Would not go back to their mono but highly rate the flocked.

I have not tried the Ariel brush but to my way of thinking it is too narrow so requires more brush strokes to cover the glass.

 Hi
Thanks all, by the way iam not a newbie have been windie longer than some of you, but when i started it was basicaly tucker or ionics for kit.

my last purchases where from brodex, and all have vikan ovals on them. i have one pole that i cant remember where it was sourced from. it has a square brush on it with red bristles and fan jets but no name?

I also have just had a new 54 foot carbon fibre from gardners but dont know what brush we put on it. when working above 40 feet the brush is a mute point as you can only do so much and you have to brace your arms anyway.

iam used to ordering a pole the brush choice used to be red or white bristles. just trying to catch up with latest toys. by the way i said clx pole might spring for the sl carbon instead.

 cheers

if someone just spent £45 for a superlite
they would want to be kept in denial
and convince themselves the bently/aldi brush is 15 times worse to use

Or but an over-priced Aerial with a scraper that doesn't actually work, or even touch the glass!  ;D

Desperados ;D

With 0 degree do you get enough splay for the inner bristles to work on the glass?
