Get out to work yourself, Johnny Coyle! Why is your little green "on line" indicator showing at 9.40a.m.
I am on the telephone talking to local 5* Hotels and have jobs lined up  to clear and salt their carparks and driveways for between £100.00 and £250.00 a time  ;D

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

If your insurance doesn't cover your new ventures then no amount of grit will stop you sliding into prison if someone decides to trip or slip on the grit you have put down

Are you for real?

This industry is full of chancers like you who will do whatever it takes to make a few quid regardless of the consequences.
Your idea is a great one and fair play to you for 'thinking outside the box' but when it is people's property you are working on you need to make sure that
1 - you do the job right
2 - you are insured to do the job you do

don't worry, if the drive clearing work disappears, there is always gas work.

as for clearing footpath,and gritting.
ive just cleared 15 old people paths opposite me on a complex.why cause people like doctors, nurse and home help still have to get to these old people.ive also checked to see if they are all ok and have everything they need,

someone want to sue me cause they slip, then lets go to court,

thats why this country is in a state cause we all worry what one going todo (sue).

Looking for clarification on liabilities on clearing snow, I found the following -

Your local authority is responsible for clearing snow and ice from the public highway and pavement. Under Section 41(1A) of the Highways Act 1980, the council must ensure that safe passage along a highway is not endangered by snow or ice. If the local authority fails to act, you can apply to the magistrates' court under the same legislation for an order to unblock the highway within a reasonable period - although such orders are very rare indeed.

Private landowners are not obliged to clear snow or ice from the highway, even if the road or pavement passes over their land. Indeed, from a legal point of view it may be risky for private individuals to clear these areas. By sweeping snow from one part of the pavement you can create a danger in another area and if someone is injured, you will be liable for negligence or nuisance.

On your own land, it is a different matter. You owe visitors a duty under the Occupiers Liability Act 1984 to take reasonable care to ensure that they are reasonably safe. This means that if you know someone (such as the postman) is likely to walk up your garden path, and you also know that the garden path is slippery, you must take reasonable steps to clear the path of snow and grit it if necessary.

However, you should not simply brush the snow from your path on to the public pavement. It is also a public nuisance to block the pavement of the road by sweeping snow from your property on to the highway.

Your neighbours are therefore quite right to clear their own paths, but are taking a legal risk in clearing the public pavement - no matter how public-spirited their actions may seem.

Very sensible and forward thinking.  i would have done similar but at 63 i only have the energy for window cleaning each day.  Perhaps I should look for an admin type job as a second back up income  :) - trouble is, I took up window cleaning to get away from admin after 48 years of it  ;D

Get out to work.
Buy some salt and clear some driveways. This is what running a business is like.
You have to think outside the box, its unbeleavble that many on this forum claim to be sitting at home watching TV or playing Xbox etc. when their is work to be done. Even if its spending the week phoning round getting more work.

We have the easiest climate to work in - the rest of northern europe has colder and deeper snow every year.

No mate, but you are. The sign of a great man, is how he treats lesser men. Blowing your own trumet on here will always get a reaction. A few of us open new profiles on here to wind up others for fun. You got a result on this one didn't you? ;)

250k in your personal account . if your such an astute business man why isnt it invested somewhere instead of in a personal bank account earning  0.5% interest.

Personally i would rather be at home with my two kids enjoying the snow , but maybe thats because i got a life outside work

think i will stick to being a part timer , a professional one at that
