You are talking at cross purposes. Feen I don't agree with you but I think you've been rounded on a bit.

But what about me? I posted that I gave the down and out three pounds to stop him rummaging through other peoples left over sausages in the chip shop waste bin that must have been hours old and freezing cold, and not one person commended me. I mean elgin did the right thing yes, but it didn't cost him any money!

As it happens as i walked away after his thanking me I looked back and  he was still rummmaging. So maybe thats the lesson here. Stop rummaging lads.

I'm a market trader who's now also a window cleaner. My wife has made me help her on the market for the last two weeks so I have cleaned none or very few windows lately. We sell hats gloves and  scraves amongst other things. This must be the coldest december on record, and fairly dry, so you can imagine we're talking telephone numbers.

So my three pounds doesn't make me a saint, and generaly when asked for change I say no (mainly because of what you mention ww- special brew). I have some jewish friends and when asked they have to give which is quite funny.

However, this chaps rummaging did strike a chord with me, and I felt better about myself.

Well NWH enjoy your Christmas. Cleanandshine, you,ve missed the point. When quoted £50/60 custie probably thought it was a big job. When done in 40 minutes, custie thinks " that's quick. Not worth the money". I'm not suggesting the custie shouldn't pay, I'm suggesting the pricing should be more honest. Hence, my reference to the original post. Please read it, it's to do with honesty.

Don't forget it's not just about the time taken to clean the muck out of the gutter.  I don't know about you but I find there are other things to clean (including myself) after doing such a job.
I remermber one guttering I cleaned out quite a few years ago.  I priced it at £20 (I didn't know any better back then).  I did it in about 10 minutes.  I honestly didn't plan it like this but when I turned up to clear it, it was a bitterly cold day.  All the muck came out encased in long chunks of ice.  It was a complete doddle.  What was I meant to do?  Offer a partial refund because I turned up on a day when an eskimo wouldn't build an igloo?   :)

Today I found a ladies purse, it contained £237 plus a little change, if it belonged to a rich person I probably would have taken to my toes, but I Looked further in the purse and it had an OAP bus pass in it, it also contained an address, so I did the right thing and took it to her house.

When I knocked the door a younger woman answered it and it turrned out to be her daughter, I explained what I was there for and if I had been able to take a photo of the daughters face it would have reminded me through out next year of the Joy I brought to someones day.

She invited me in and there on the sofa still in tears was the sweetest little old lady anyone could meet, I handed her,  her purse and the poor old dear started crying again? but this time with Joy, she stood up and gave me a great big hug and kiss on the cheek and told me it was her christmas money and all the money she possesed in the world, her daughter had come around to lend her some money so she could get the rest of her christmas shopping.

Out of £237 this little old dear offered me £50 to which I refused to take a penny, the Joy on her's and her daughters face was the nicest gift they could have given me, It took me a while to get her to put it back into her purse, Shame the daughter never gave me a big kiss though ;D

Its the same with my OAP custy's they seem to be the ones who appreciate you more and always give christmas tips, even the one's you know can't really afford to.
To Mrs Stevens, I wish you a very merry Christmas. ;)
Hi...you have my respect ....have a great xmas and best wishes for 2008....Tony.
