I found £237
« on: December 23, 2007, 06:15:56 pm »
Today I found a ladies purse, it contained £237 plus a little change, if it belonged to a rich person I probably would have taken to my toes, but I Looked further in the purse and it had an OAP bus pass in it, it also contained an address, so I did the right thing and took it to her house.

When I knocked the door a younger woman answered it and it turrned out to be her daughter, I explained what I was there for and if I had been able to take a photo of the daughters face it would have reminded me through out next year of the Joy I brought to someones day.

She invited me in and there on the sofa still in tears was the sweetest little old lady anyone could meet, I handed her,  her purse and the poor old dear started crying again? but this time with Joy, she stood up and gave me a great big hug and kiss on the cheek and told me it was her christmas money and all the money she possesed in the world, her daughter had come around to lend her some money so she could get the rest of her christmas shopping.

Out of £237 this little old dear offered me £50 to which I refused to take a penny, the Joy on her's and her daughters face was the nicest gift they could have given me, It took me a while to get her to put it back into her purse, Shame the daughter never gave me a big kiss though ;D

Its the same with my OAP custy's they seem to be the ones who appreciate you more and always give christmas tips, even the one's you know can't really afford to.
To Mrs Stevens, I wish you a very merry Christmas. ;)

This is why being kind truly makes you happy, all those thieves and crookes don't understand, but being kind and nice is the best thing a human being can do and in return they have something worth more than money....happiness. Thats a brilliant story! Luke

Now that is what I call a truly lovely and heartwarming story...and what a great time of the year for it to happen.
To do a totally unselfish act without thought to reward makes you feel incredibly good.

I once saved a chaps life in a road accident, the only thanks I got was from the police Sargent when I went to the station to give my statement.
It was only a pat on the back and a, "well done lad, your actions saved that boys life."
I hadn't realised it at the time of the accident, but having that Sargent thank me was praise enough.
What irked me afterwards though was to read that the police woman who had 'accompanied' the unconscious young man to hospital in the back of the ambulance had received a commendation!

Too right.  It's the only way to do it isn't it?
I hope you told her you were a window cleaner.  It can help to break through the negative stereotypes that some people have.

I'm not saying this is the same but this early morning(remember how cold it was) a down and out was going through the large open bin in front of a northampton town centre chip shop. I imagine he was looking for some sausage or something that hadn't been eaten.

I went over and gave him three pounds and told him to get some breakfast. Cheap ain't I.

Thank you Guy's
I looked at it this way, what if it was my dear old mum God rest her soul? or if I lost it myself aspecially this time of year, it does make you feel good when you see the happiness it brings to someone else,

I still wish the daughter would have given me a big wet kiss instead of a big wet hairy one from LWC ;D ;D

My Mrs lost one of her rings in a store the other day when she washed her hands, now this ring I bought her on our very first date over 32 years ago, it was worth naff all in value, but it broke her heart that some scum bag nicked it within 10 minutes, it was worth sentimental value only.
I didn't want to be labeled the same as I labeled the scum who picked her ring up, and before you asked we did ask at customer services and no one handed it in.

My mum lost her purse last week with around the same amount of money in it.  Like the old lady in the storey she had her bus pass in it, so they would have known she was a 70 year old woman.  Although the money was her much needed Christmas present money, other things of very sentimental value which are worthless to the thief, are impossible for her to replace.

Pity the person finding it was not as honest as Elginn-Sparrowhawk.
