sill/cill brush
« on: January 05, 2007, 03:54:02 pm »
I have been in a discussion today with my brush supplier and have explained that there has been quite a bit of interest in a sill/cill(sorry don`t know the correct spelling)brush,
so he needs to know how much interest really as for what numbers the brushes are to be made and supplied in,
we know about the vikan hi/low brush but it`s not exactly perfect(too heavy, big, not correct bristles etc)
what i am needing is how many people are interested in this brush,
all i know is that we would like it to be light (maybe made from a plastic foam stock) the bristles will be monofilament,
if anyone has any suggestions and interest please let me know asap so we can get things moving,
cheers,Gaz  ;)

I was going to get one for my powerpole but decided not to in the end just because of the weight.

But i would be interested in a light sill brush i could just use with an unger pole as i would only use it a couple of times a month not really worth buying a new pole just so i can use one just a few times a month.

My supplier used to make brushes, but he sold his equipment a few years ago and now buys them in,i have got a brush that is made from plastic foam stock and it is really light and strong,
the brushes will be made to a high standard so they should last,

There is a very large market for a practical, lightweight dual purpose brush which will effectively clean verticle glass/frames and horizontal sills in one operation without the necessity of either changing brushes or angle of presentation.

Any experienced domestic window cleaner will tell you that the customer regards wiping the sill as a necessary element of the window cleaning process.

Those of us who have converted from "trad" would never have dreamed of squeegeing a window without wiping the residue off the sill afterwards.

A brush that will achieve this and satisfy the criteria of durability and lightness (if properly marketed), would become the standard brush for every domestic window cleaning pole.

Surely one of the manufacturers must have the vision to see this?  The first one to come up with the goods will corner the market.

Cheers,

Ian

If its foam and comes in between 8-10oz ish or under and having made/ converted my own for years. I would buy one with soft but not too long filament bristles(less than the vikan). I wouldnt be too worried about how long it lasts because the lightness speeds you up to compensate for needing to buy then more often.

Just a thought. At one time I thought you had to have a brush with anchored/riveted bristles but if its well made maybe they are not needed.

I would definitely take a couple. The vikan one makes you realise why you need a sill brush but it weighs so much and doesn't clean as well as your brushes. one of your brushes in the shape of the vikan sill brush is what you need to offer and all my poles would have them.

Hi Phil,it seems as though there are a lot of brushes on the market but there is not the "perfect brush",so many have asked for a multi purpose brush ie sill brush, buy now i have tried to get the ball rolling not many replies yet, unless i`m being too eager, who knows lets see what happens,Gaz

Gaz I was going to get a SILL (lol) brush, from vikan, but I'm interested in this new type of brush, save a lot of hasstle moving into position to wipe the sill afterwards, time = money.

Jeff, the vikan some people are using and like but i think that`s just down to that there is no alternative the vikan was not produced for wfp it is too heavy ,bulky and not the perfect bristles,
i know exactly how this brush should be and it WILL knock the stuffing out of the vikan,Gaz  ;)
