Its getting a bit too much now.
« on: May 24, 2018, 07:35:31 am »
Didn't get home till 8pm last night and was completely goosed, was so tired when I got into bed I couldn't sleep.

Anyone else get fed with the workload?

I would love to do less but need to be progressing and cant afford to take a step backwards, crap situation.

What I wouldn't do for a month off, got two weeks off in August but it seems so far away!

Do you need to do what you are doing? It sounds as though you are over stretching yourself. Are you actually progressing? What happens next year?
I'm in a similar postion but my blacklog of work is due to my deteriorating ability to maintain my cleaning schedule due to age and health. So in actuality, I'm going backwards - yes, eventually toward my demise. Its very frustrating but I'm on the wrong side of youth.

Take it from me. Someone who chases the job (money targets) just ends up unhappy. You need to be balanced and spend quality time with the family. They are the most important people in your life.  Your customers are also important, but not as important as your family.

I considered that earlier on in the year, but have bought a franchise package so the priority now is work volume and the prices whilst needing to be good dont need to be stellar. S o I'm sticking with the prices I have as any franchisee's only need to net me £30 ph.

I agree spruce, I feel a bit stuck right now.

Last night for the last hour was just getting pee'd off with myself and felt like a right fool!

I actually finished my schedule  at 6pm but I had promised someone a full in and out clean as the house is being pictured this morning for sale. There was bloody render all over the frames, never doing one of them again!

i work no more than 25-30 hours a week all year round(46 weeks of the year)that brings me in a turnover of £42-£45,000 a year......im happy with that......

personally i wouldnt want to work any longer hours these days as i like my leisure time(gym 3 times a week/playing drums etc)....

also i dont get too bored/burnt out with window cleaning working these hours......

in my trad days id do 45+ hours a week some weeks but i was years younger and 4 hours a week was collecting!! ;D
price higher/work harder!

you need to get a handle on work life balance - its all too easy ( for some of us ) to feel obligated to customers and fit in that one last job.

if its because your in a hole money wise get make a short term plan, priorortise the bills and pay them off over a short set period you really need to factor in rest/fun periods into your schedule otherwise you'll go POP then be go good to no one

I'm on holiday at the minute sat in the sun having my breakfast.. so sorry about that but....

I lost my employee day before i went away,
We parted ways amicably, he wanted to go self employed, I wasn't too bothered as was getting a bit fed up with extra workload it requires running a second van.

So that has left me considering my plans going forward. The workload I have left I can probably manage solo but I can't work 8 hours a day on the glass on my own forever, it's boring for a start but mainly just draining. No fun getting in and just wanting to sleep.

On the flip side employing whilst physically easier is mentally draining.

It does leave you questioning what's the point in trying to earn loads of money, more money more problems, more stress, more workload etc.

When I get back I'm going to refine what I have and really work on quality over quantity.

I'm going to look at subbing/renting/selling what I have left over and then look at something else.

I have an idea for an online business.

My plan is to take on 5 franchisee's and have my the money I'm on now and not have to work.

Its going to be hard work for a few years but when its done I can reap the benefits of my labour, I did look into employing but its not for me.

There was a point in our early employing days when I was full time cleaning windows and full time admin. Most weeks were 70+ hours. I don't think I had a single Saturday off for about 5 years.

Nowadays I sit about getting fat arguing about climate change on CIU with people who don't know what CO2 is.

Nothing good ever comes easy, hard work now pays dividends later.

I don't like holidays though, never have. Two weeks off is my idea of hell. Especially in August.

I must admit  2 weeks is too long.

I usually go for a week that's enough, this time im away for 12 days. Getting a bit bored now hence why I'm on here itching to get back on with my business. 2 days left

Is arguing on CIU guilt free? On my off days I can't settle. One of the vans blew up the other day so I'm sat answering the phone and feeling guilty about not working. I'm about a month to six weeks from that being my way of life and it's not currently sitting quite right with me.  ??? ??? ??? ???

For health reasons window cleaning is no longer an option for me.

Last window I cleaned was coming up 10 years ago. The feeling of guilt has long since passed.

Arguing on here?

Tosh, rosskesava, Dry Clean, Martin606, Perfect Windows et al can be blamed for most things. Not arthritis though.
