Another long winded round the house of Lees video got bored half way through as per usual and turned it off soz !!!!

Me too.  And I also thought the ALS thing was just a bunch of facebook naff and my excuse for not doing it when nominated (which I'm still not) was that I was allergic to water.

But then I watched this ALS challenge done by a guy with ALS and it changed my mind:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h07OT8p8Oik#t=131

Watch it from minute 2 and I doubt anyone will complain about the challenge after that.

It's a shame you used a charity cause as an opportunity to promote your magazine.
I think its a shame that a cancer charity that already gets huge coverage hijacked a campaign from a condition that gets little or none. The ice bucket challenge as originally for motor neuron disease so why did McMillan muscle in on the act. Disappointed in them.

People saying "throwing a bucket of ice water over you heard doesnt raise awareness for the illness"
But tbh it does because i had never even heard of it until these videos came out, and now i know a lot more about it:)

lol and how did they manufacture that then? Sending lots of little Macmillian Cancer fairies out there and tell them to do their ice-bucket challenges in the name of Macmillan instead of ALS in the hope that the public would jump ship?

They did that by having a banner on their home page suggesting people do the challenge for Macmillan, they also did that by changing the twitter handle to drop the ALS from the hashtag. They've done everything they can to identify the challenge with their charity in the UK. It's easier when you have a budget as big as Macmillans. I'm allowed to think its out of order, don't remember needing your permission.

Hey, you're spot on.  I wonder how much the CEO of Macmillan gets paid?  Smart move, but a bit sneaky.

I couldn't agree more.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Any proof that that's where the money goes?  Proof does not equal "bloke on the internet says so".  Proof = facts.

And let's hope you never need an antibiotic, blood transfusion, heart operation, operation for macular degeneration, asthma inhaler, kidney transplant, tamoxifen (if your partner gets breast cancer), treatment for Parkinsons or insulin.

You will no doubt, as a matter of principle, turn down any or all of those treatments (amidst hundreds of others), as they were trialled on animals.  Good luck.

Got to love this forum!

Goes from being about charity(and raising money for a good cause), to having an argument about what people think about charities/the way they raise funds/the way they use funds.

Lighten up guys. ;D

Its an emotive subject eh Vin ? But ALS does themselves provide "some" facts........
http://www.alsa.org/about-us/financial-information.html

and they state that 27% of their money goes to research. Depending upon what and where you read ALS ,have done no groundbreaking research nor approved any new drugs for years.

For myself i looked upon this icebucket challenge as a great idea for a charity until i seen George Bush do it !! Then i realised that it was for an American based charity. As i looked into it a bit (as is your duty !! ;D ), i seen that a lot of people where doing it for Macmillan Cancer.
ALS have now kicked off about MacMillan hijacking it !!

My advice is, before you donate make sure you realise and make an informed descision as to were your money is going. Nothing wrong with any of it as long as you are aware when you text your donation that it is actually going to who you thought it was going too.

I view it differently......

You will do, its know in the mainstream media as "desperate marketing"

I would pay to see Perry Tait form Reach-iT to get drenched myself lmao ( for example)

Nah, this is trying to implant the name of "Perry Tait" and his "reach IT" brand in our heads. You'd rather us remember Perry Tait and Reach IT, but you'd really rather drown Alex Gardiner and his Gardiners Pole Systems i'd suspect, and so would Perry Tait !!!

What I don't understand is we have so many people doing so much charity work to raise money for CANCER. All this money raised goes into experimenting to get drugs to hold back or even one day kill off cancer. What I can't get in my head is when they come up with a drug that will hold the cancer back for some time they want to then sell these drugs for thousands of pounds to each patient which the rich people can afford, hold on a minute where did they get the money in the first place !!!!

The NHS can't afford to pay the money they want to treat everyone so how I see it the rich who probably don't do much not all some do give to charity but probably the fat business people don't run or do much so I've given up on giving to charity. My mum and sister died of cancer and the NHS couldn't give my sister the drug to keep her going for another 6 months as it was to expensive and she did a run for life before she was diagnosed!!!!!!!!!
