What I don't understand is we have so many people doing so much charity work to raise money for CANCER. All this money raised goes into experimenting to get drugs to hold back or even one day kill off cancer. What I can't get in my head is when they come up with a drug that will hold the cancer back for some time they want to then sell these drugs for thousands of pounds to each patient which the rich people can afford, hold on a minute where did they get the money in the first place !!!!

The NHS can't afford to pay the money they want to treat everyone so how I see it the rich who probably don't do much not all some do give to charity but probably the fat business people don't run or do much so I've given up on giving to charity. My mum and sister died of cancer and the NHS couldn't give my sister the drug to keep her going for another 6 months as it was to expensive and she did a run for life before she was diagnosed!!!!!!!!!
I agree! Cancer is big business, and none of these so called charities are interested in finding a cure whatsoever, there is no money in a cure, if a cure was found then the donations would stop! Prevention is the key, and the western diet/lifestyle is pretty much responsible for all of these diseases. As for those criticising my stand against the ice bucket challenge nonsense, I never blindly follow the crowd like a sheep and hand my money over to some organisation which I know nothing about, some people are so gullible!

You knew enough to state that "most" of the money raised would be spent on animal research.

I will eat my words if they miraculously find a cure, but I can confidently say that they won't, but that won't stop the unthinking sheep throwing their money at already rich organisations!!

Nah, I think it's just how some folk justify why they won't donate money to charity, when the truth is probably that they're too selfish and self centred.

The point is that the post should have been on the non window cleaning board.

HaHa - I got stopped by Marie Curie about 3 months ago and before she even opened her mouth. I said sign me up! She was shocked. Once its setup, you dont miss it. Been meaning to do another charity anyway :) I tip my takeaway guy every time and i have about two takeaways a week. So i told him no more tips as i am donating it to charity. Takeaways are always cold and hairy now :(

I blame the mods, but the challenge has got something to do with water, and we use that to clean windows with.  And then there's window cleaners in the original post, and it's for charidee innit?  It'll get a bigger audience here.

There's a lot of grumpy folk about today?  I think it's the change in the weather, or their piles is playing them up or summat.

But there isn't just one cancer. Its a wide umbrella of different illnesses many of which are no longer the death sentence they were not so long ago. My niece had non Hodgkins lymphoma when she was 14 6 years ago. She just celebrated her 5 years free of cancer a week ago. That would have killed her not so long ago.

That's rubbish.
I reckon there's huge money in a cure for a type of cancer. If someone discovered a cure I'm sure the money they'd make would be far greater than these charitable donations.
And think of the money NHS would save.

I think the question of what do the cancer charities do with the research money when cures are not coming forward in abundance maybe misses the scale of the investments. Maybe what the likes of Macmillan and Cancer research UK can contribute is a drop in the ocean of spending trying to find cures.

I've wondered myself why so much cash goes into charities researching cancer only for a drug to come along that will lengthen a cancer patients life span by 6 months or so but will cost 12k  month. Maybe the drug company has invested billions when the cancer research charities are talking millions?

It is all a massive con!! The drug companies are taking us all for a ride. It should all be about prevention not cure, the human race eats crap food which is full of poisons every single day, and then wonders why so many get ill!! The ALS "charity" spent half of its 24 million dollar income last year on running itself, and the people who hold the top five posts in the organisation took over a million of that between them!! Your money is just making rich people richer, you mugs!!!

You're right.  You can see the effect of all the "poisons" you eat every day in this graph of UK life expectancy at birth over three decades.  Clearly we're all becoming more and more ill.  It's there in the graph.  Look.

I don't necessarily agree with Groundhog but yes we are living longer but are we just living longer with disease or are we staying disease free?
