I was with RBS and went with scamtander, you know 'cause it's free an' that.

You get what you pay for.

I'm back with RBS.

Free banking with Santander is only free if it was originally an Alliance & Leicester account which can be used via Post Office.

It's also still free if you have a Santander account that goes back a certain time.
They tried to force the £7.50 charge on everyone a while back.  They failed.  The key to it was that the original deal offered was "free business banking forever" (within certain parameters).  The argument was that the word "forever" superceded any changes in T & Cs.  e.g.  if they had offered "free banking", it is just about accepted that they might withdraw that at a future date.  By adding "forever", that was an inducement that got them a lot of customers.

Am I right in saying the Santander is a business account? So you can have your business name etc? A lot of people send me cheques to my business name so I need that.

I'm currently with rbs business, as im in the 2 year free period, but in a few months I'll we start being charged £30 a month.

So you can deposit cash in, pay cheques in, and customers can pay bacs in, all for just £7.50 a month?

Wow.

Think I might be switching if that's the case.

Yes, the account is in the business name but they're pretty flexible accepting cheques paid in. I get cheques with 'window cleaner' as the payee!  ::)roll or my name or company name. Only ever get them sent back if they're not dated.

What happened to make you switch back?

And do you just pay the rbs business royalties flat rate per month or per transaction? Think its £30 a month flat rate?

Scamtander decided to pay the lads double, told me it was their mistake, then had a change of heart a month or so later and decided I needed to get the money back off them. Not impressed.

I pay flat rate at RBS.

How much is the flat rate again?

I'll probably just do that aswell to be honest.

I had a weird issue with Santander a couple of years back.  They wrote to me saying that they required proof from a solicitor of my business partner's death.  Although the account number was correct, I have never had a business partner and the name that the letter was addressed to was not mine - even though the correct business name appeared on the envelope.  I contacted them (looking up the number independently from the letter) in case it was some scam,  No scam.  Just yet another load of garbage from Santander.  They "compensated" me with a tenner.  I informed the banking regulator.
