Got a nice letter from Barclays today. They are doubling the monthly charge, so I will be paying around eighty quid a month for putting cash and cheques into an account? It has forced me to change bank accounts and I might go Ltd at the same time.Anyone recommend a good business account?
Or just walk into the post office and hand cash over for free
£7.50 a month Santander

I don't think you get free banking for a new customer. Coop ok for me. No charges if £1000 in current account. There is not a branch near me so I pay cheques in by post. Takes one extra day to clear and they provide postage paid envelope. I pay cash in at nominated post office and they charge me eighty pence each time.
Free banking with Santander is only free if it was originally an Alliance & Leicester account which can be used via Post Office.

They failed. The key to it was that the original deal offered was "free business banking forever" (within certain parameters). The argument was that the word "forever" superceded any changes in T & Cs. e.g. if they had offered "free banking", it is just about accepted that they might withdraw that at a future date. By adding "forever", that was an inducement that got them a lot of customers.
