Access from road safety issues pics.2
« on: April 16, 2013, 02:03:55 pm »
I'm working among the proletariat today and have added to yesterday's procedure.

The first picture is a well used pavement.

The second is infrequently used. For both of these the drive was full.

The third picture is now the standard where possible. In the past I would have parked on the road to access 5 houses. Now I will access the one's either side of where I can park and move the vehicle more often.

Discuss.

Why? You would end up with the van doors up too close to the garage.

All that time faffing about putting mat over hose, cones out,and putting it all away again i would get  trolley or backpack. I know you said about lifting it in and out but i would rather do that than all that cone/mat thing.

I must admit that looks like overkill with the cones to me.
I mainly use 1 but very occasionally will use 2.
By using 4 as you have in those pics you are actually restricting the width of the pavement to pedestrians.
Im not actually sure how the council and safety brigade would view that?  :-\

10-15 seconds at the most. If it would take you 5 minutes to put a mat out you need to retire!  ;D

There would be a lot less risk of injury lifting a mat as opposed to 25 L tub and trolley. Therefore reflected in your RAMS

You're quite right. The mat is one I used in the past when filling up. I need to get a 2-3 meter mat.

Thats a ridiculous thing to suggest.

Far better to dig a trench in the pavement, lay the hose in it, tarmac it over, hey presto, all ready for next time.

I think if  a pedestrian was walking down the pavement and saw that fiasco they would walk around the cones and mat in fear of it being a covered up .manhole or summit,  then they still have the risk of tripping over the hose or getting  run over ;D

Do you reflect that in your Risk Assessment for each property?

If you extended the hose from the van port to the reel then put your mat down you can be free to pull the reel 2,3,4 or 5 houses without messing around.
