Bad Grammar
« on: April 08, 2013, 09:37:32 pm »
Looking at some of the member's websites I've noticed a fair amount of 'bad grammar' going on.

Any thoughts?

Its is a shame but remember, this is window cleaning and there are some not blessed with a good education and do not feel free to ask for help.

A badly worded website is an easy way to let your customers infer that you're not very bright.  The older generation, the Baby Boomers, the ones with the dosh, can be particular about stuff like this.  My parents were like that, even my Japanese mother, whose English is better than most on this site.

I think Sunshine has a point.

Forget a comma today, miss a corner tomorrow!  ;D

You don't need a good education in order to use a dictionary for spelling and windows spell-checker for grammar. You could ask a web design company to write your content or ask a mate with a good knowledge of English two chekk. ;D

It's all well and good to have a flashy 'looking' site but if when people start to read it they see obvious bad grammar it's not going to inspire confidence in the company.

The least a self made website owner should do is to get it spellchecked and grammar checked.

No need as its said as a complete sentence.

As a 'rule' if comma's are used they should be used in pairs. You should be able to take out the words between the comma's and it still be readable.

Yes! They'll read through that website and say: "It can only be a window cleaner! Uneducated Pheasant!"

I think it's an important topic.

If the customers DON'T notice or care then we must ask, "What is the point of all those pages after pages of text?"

Is it for our own self importance or to inform and draw in the customer?

Window cleaners will spend £1000's on equipment but not even get a mate to spell/grammar check their website.

The ones I'm speaking of are, like mine, self built. I know we aren't English Teachers, we're window cleaners, but surely one of our pieces of advertisement should be as accurate as we can make it!

Maybe; but it should be members' (plural) not member's (singular).  ;D
It's a game of three halves!
