Ebay seems to be one of the worst offending places for this. Sometimes an item description is written so badly, with no punctuation, and with spelling mistakes so dreadful that you are unable to determine exactly what point the seller is trying to make. I always get the feeling with sellers or commercial websites that we're not dealing with someone, who maybe through no fault of their own isn't very well educated, but rather someone who cannot be bothered to use the spell checking software of which many exist. This suggests that they do not care which makes me very concerned about contributing for their goods or services.

I think it's an important topic.

If the customers DON'T notice or care then we must ask, "What is the point of all those pages after pages of text?"

Is it for our own self importance or to inform and draw in the customer?

Window cleaners will spend £1000's on equipment but not even get a mate to spell/grammar check their website.

The ones I'm speaking of are, like mine, self built. I know we aren't English Teachers, we're window cleaners, but surely one of our pieces of advertisement should be as accurate as we can make it!

Mine has some spelling mistakes that was designed for me,unfortunately i haven't had time to ask Luke to sort it out when i get chance, however i am not too worried as the work is flying in through my website.
 5 more enquiries yesterday.
My website paid for itself in 24 hours of being live.
Takings off all first cleans till march 7th 2014
October  total=  cleaned  extra per month
November = cleaned extra per month
Total £  so far.

Looking at some of the member's websites I've noticed a fair amount of 'bad grammar' going on.

Any thoughts?

Between websites and I've, comma needed?

No need as its said as a complete sentence.

As a 'rule' if comma's are used they should be used in pairs. You should be able to take out the words between the comma's and it still be readable.

Maybe; but it should be members' (plural) not member's (singular).  ;D

Maybe my fellow pedant!

However forums are like having a chat in the pub and therefore grammar can be all over the place.

Our websites are an advertisement to people who buy from us. It should be a little better in diction.

I don't believe poor education is an excuse. It's being too lazy to find out what is right or wrong that is the problem.

My spelling is awful despite my best efforts - and my grammar is worse!

For posting on forums etc this doesn't bother me too much (I do have a spell checker installed on my browser though!), but when writing for a website you need to be careful,.. one simple mistake can be off putting & give the impression that your company isn't bothered about "the details" that might be so important to a potential customer.

Search on www.fiverr.com for proof reading - its incredibly cheap and its ESSENTIAL for any new website to be properly checked over!

‘Let’s eat Grandma!’ or, ‘Let’s eat, Grandma!’ Punctuation saves lives.

The 'T' in English teachers doesn't need to be capitalised.  ;D ;)

I agree, I detest spelling and grammatical mistakes. I will edit my own posts if I notice I have made a mistake. I like commas and apostrophes in the right places etc.

If I receive any advertising literature or read a website offering a service, I will not use them if there are any spelling mistakes, full stop, oh I mean .!

It is a good subject and something I have noticed flying about too sunshine. :)

My grammar used to be bad but my grandad kept her in line!

Seriously though I think it's important to check and doesn't really take any time. First impressions count.
