No problem now as explained everything on the phone, fixed a potential problem with plain old customer services.

to be honest if I wasnt a wc and was paying someone to clean for me I probably would'nt want them done when its raining, ignorant ? well yes but they are not wc's its not their job or livelyhood so why should they care ? would you ?

anyway I have a rain guarentee............................I clean the windows and it will rain usually within 1-5 days (or 1-5 hours now its british summer time)

I would not mind mate, as I honestly see no difference rain or shine, so I can stand by what I say, I have total confidence in cleaning in the rain, I guess thats why people believe it when they speak to me

sorry Ian only just read what your response was to the customer, should have done that first, as you can probably gather my comment on a rain guarentee was just having a laugh.
I dont however clean a customers windows in anything more than drizzle , you may not mind because you know how the system works, credit to you for explaining to them and winning them over.
I still hold by my opinion though that most would not like their windows cleaned if it was actually raining, people are old fashioned like that. Even knowing what I know as a wc if someone was to be wfp'ling my house in the rain I'd be reckoning on them doing a sub standard job quickly to avoid getting any wetter than they needed to especially if they were an employee,
Not suggesting that you would do anything of the kind, you sound far too proffessional  ;)

Simon, I do not try to win them over I just explain the facts to them, and it explains itself, I clean hunderds on people homes in the rain, and my work is canvassed/ marketed against all the time. we clean the same in the rain or the sun (it really and honestly makes no difference) my guys know if they do poor work they clean it again in thier time not mine so substandard work is not an issue for me. complaints by customer are alwasy sorted asap, happy customers makes me money long term.

I am not trying to change your opinion at all by the way, but from what I do daily I do not get complaints, and if I do I rectify them straight away and infrom the customer which keeps them happy.

This issue arised from a canvassed customer not being explained to in the manner I do.

Where you say people are old fashioned like that I am totally again with you, but if you educate people in to what is the truth, there is no reason not to clean them, that old fashioned view is coming to an end, it started many many years ago with trad cleaning and rats, which we don't do anymore, with wfp we dont get the problems that the older generation used to, ask Ian Lancaster he may have been doing it at this time the problem started (not saying hes old but at the same time hes been about a very long time. Things change, as do we need to.

I am not trying to say work in the rain to anyone, if you work in drizzle that cool it is nothing to do with me, but I will say this, I rarely get complaints, I do offer good customer services always have, and the way are weather is not working in the rain will be costing you or anyone a serious amount of money over the year, try it and see, but dont take the first knock back people are adverse to change but when explained correctly this is totally do able.

Cheers for you reply Simon, I like your honesty, i hope I explained myself ok  ;)

you did Ian, very well
maybe because my business is small (my choice, low living expenses and housing situation coupled with the fact I cannot always park near enough to my flat to fill up when I want to, it somewhat dictates my working hours)
I shy away from doing even a few hours on persitently rainy days for fear of customers not liking it, I too hold my customer service high on my list.
To do half a days work in my town would burn as much diesel as doing a full days work and thats what ultimately makes me decide not to work on bad weather days, just not cost effective.
You put forward good points though and maybe I should consider educating customers more, I just dont know how many would take the time to listen  :-\ ;)

There is no real problem working in the rain if explained properly to customers. Now I have an employee it is even easier - they appreciate I cannot have him sat around pulling a wage for nothing.

That being said I personally don't like cleaning in persistent rain beyond a drizzle, I just don't like getting wet or working 7/8 hours a day five days a week on the glass and so work on a 4 day but flexible basis - this means I work in the gaps between showers and in anything up to a light rain.

Most weeks I work 4 days - though with the recent rain I find I am working more flexibly to get the work done. My employee works a four day week alongside me and as long as the work is done I don't care if he plays golf for the rest of the week (once he's tidied the van and washed it of course! ;D)

It's a game of three halves!

the truth is when you ve got 340-350 customers to clean every month you have to work in the rain sometimes.i dont work if its a washout or very windy as well but showers and drizzle yes.

the problem is SPE is if you get a bigger workload you ll be losing thousands of pounds a year if you dont work in the rain sometimes.

my customers are used to me turning up in ice, snow, wind and rain, sunny, cloudy, hail etc!

also please dont take any notice of weather forecasts!!they all like to predict armageddon in weather terms.drama queens the lot of em!!9 times out of ten the weather is never as bad as they predict!! ;) ;D ;D

the weather at times last week was just too bad IMO for cleaning domestics but we very rarely have lots of "washout" days together where its just persistent heavy rain day after day.
price higher/work harder!

Why don't we wash our cars in the rain?  ???

Ians right cleaning in the rain makes no difference ....... to us. If you offer a rain guarantee then you'll rarely get called back. However, filthy wet weather means their windows will get dirty again within a couple of days, no doubt about it. My office window is absolutely covered in dirt due to the recent poor weather.
Unfortunately Ians fabulous customer service speech is really geared for his business rather than his customers interests. He's looking after himself really, not the customer. Rain is a right pain to all of us and customers alike. Probably makes little difference if you cut the lawn in the rain but I bet a few gardeners get cancelled.

SPE i dont understand your logic?are you saying you dont bother doing half days because you ll spend MORE ON DIESEL THAN WHAT YOU EARN FROM THAT HALF DAYS WORK?? ??? ??? ??? ???

if i do a half day ill earn between £80-£150 and spend about £3 on diesel.(work 5 miles away mostly)
