If you walking round leafleting why not just canvass? Your work will be much more compact, I have a friend who used them and his work was spread out all over so we knocked the same patch a week later and picked up 5 times what he did just from the cards....

Once you start working it you fill in the blanks anyway. If I get a decent response to an area I will hit it again in a month, and again in another month. You get them eventually.

It is more cost efficient for me to do it this way. From 10k I expect to get a minimum of 100 customers. It cost me £131 for the leaflets and £550 for the delivery so all together it will be £681. For that same £1200 of business how much would a canvasser want?

2 cleans but would be done over 5 days and the work would be much more compact. I know it works never questioned that....

They are leaflets with an opt in yes on the back craig

From my experience, done right, it would be no more compact. If you hit an area with a demand you hit it again and again. From my costings and your prices I would save enough cash just from my first 10k to leaflet another 3 times and any new customers would be a bonus and still be just about at the same cost of 2x cleans.

Don't get me wrong, canvassing has its place. It is great to get started and if you want to sit back and let someone else bring in the customers. If you are doing it yourself it is too labour intensive if you already have a full round.

There are arguements for both sides, canvassing done in one hit and leaflets could take six months to achieve the same results so would have paid for the canvasser many time already....

So why is leafletting unique, never been thought of by anyone else and wouldnt be suitable for other businesses, as was suggested in the opening post? Or am I missing something?

Isnt that what Lee Pryor said about his radio advertising campaign. Perhaps it's the name that makes them do these  things.

What would you say if there was a marketing technique that no one knows about ( because it has never been done) and yet its so simply, so neat you will end up saying 'wow, I wished I thought of this'

I am calling it 'sticky' marketing. No cold calls, no door knocking. Infact you can lay back and the customers will come to you. There is virtually no work for you to do.

Best of all this technique is unique to window cleaners. A plumber or electrician would not use it, for example.

Can you guess what I am talking about? My guess 'no you cant'

 ;D

...............and?
If you've got something to reveal, maybe just reveal it rather than playing games.
Of course, if you're just doing a teaser, that's common practice already.
I'm not a great one for teasers myself.  I prefer the "be up front - do what it says on the tin" style.

well said Paul -

i really only want to play guessing games with my 3 yr old...
Perhaps a post/thread with the idea would have been better  ???

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

I'm still trying to work out how something can be ' simply '

Rather throws the cohesion of the principle for myself.

Have some labels made up, and stick them on windows of houses that you are targetting for custom?

John

Very good, same principle but domestics wouldnt wear it very well.
