Sticky Marketing describes how companies need to move away from the old marketing system of shouting messages at people, to a new model of customer engagement, where they will attract customers by providing value and becoming 'sticky'.

Sticky marketing is not about websites but is about getting people to to come back again and again to your business
His top tips include:
Realising that it’s not about you it’s about the customer and that in everything you do or say for your customer there has to be ‘value’ in it for them. He recalled the famous quote from John F Kennedy’s inaugural address when he said “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country’ and believes that business should be repurpose this to be “Ask not what your marketing can do for you – ask what you can do for your customer’.
Secondly, he said that every purchase is triggered by an event and that if you can understand the event then you can generate content around that context to better engage with your customers and earn a table at the purchasing table. He went onto repeat that it’s not about your products and services but is about the customer event.

Hi,

What we do is leave our customers with a little sticker to put in their front window, only a small one.

With "your looking at this through clean windows, contact Seerclean on xxxxxx" has worked well for years.

Cheers,

Huw

What would you say if there was a marketing technique that no one knows about ( because it has never been done) and yet its so simply, so neat you will end up saying 'wow, I wished I thought of this'

I am calling it 'sticky' marketing. No cold calls, no door knocking. Infact you can lay back and the customers will come to you. There is virtually no work for you to do.

Best of all this technique is unique to window cleaners. A plumber or electrician would not use it, for example.

Can you guess what I am talking about? My guess 'no you cant'

Hi, this is the first day I have been on CIU since I posted this thread. It is interesting to see the mood changes in replies and then for one moment the thread drifts off discussing leafleting lol.

Here is my idea - you have heard of floor graphics, right? This is where you go into a shop and the adverts are underneath your feet for whichever top brand they are selling. This idea I have and will try out ( and I dont mind sharing if you guys want to try it too ) is a form of a 'glass sticker'.
How many times have you gone passed an empty building or refurb or new building (commercial) with nobody in it and said to yourself, I will keep an eye on that building and as soon as some one moves into it I will give them a quote!

How many times do you forget to go check on it. Im going to try out glass stickers, you know the sort I mean, that sticks to glass like a magnet and peels off leaving no marks. The wording has to be just right, and it has to look right too, so it will take some trial and error.

The idea is, the customers will call you, when they move in!! Such a simple idea, no one does it, and I bet it works.

Im off to my printers on Monday.

So its just a sticky leaflet on the glass, good idea but in OP you said hardly any work and customers will come to you, its exactly the same amount of work....

If the property is empty though and the agent sees it on the window they will remove it....

Not if you get your A frame out. Its hardly any work becuase you have them in the van, you see a building, you apply your sticky marketing, and bobs your uncle, they call you when they move in because its easy for them.
But the trick is in what you say on the sticky  ;)

Tell you what ..... I will  take all the guess work out of it for you, I will do it and let you knew how I get on. That way you have nothing to loose.

Its very similar to a leaflet but with one fundamental difference...

i have never seen a glass magnet ?????????

stickers yes but magnet no  ????

i like your idea on its principle for deserted shops and commercial buildings but has a very small market domestically..
chances are shops would ask the local windie whos there smiling in there first week of occupation.
commercials are different again..

try it m8 and let us know your gains / costs for them

Lee - not a bad idea but would you not be running a risk of 'fly posting'

Huw - do you actually do that ? - i would love to have the b@lls to get the customers to have a little sticker in
the window/front door with the company name/logo and phone number

Hi,

Yeah, we've always done it. Of course not all of them put it up, we just leave it with an info pack when we start a new customer. Then it's up to them.

Cheers,

Huw
