There's a few ppl on here who have replied and I thought cut the attitude! No wonder many people don't bother with window cleaners.

It beggars belief doesn't it?
As  some others have said, my hunch is that it's underpriced and the window cleaner didn't have sufficient assertiveness to discuss it.
However, to say they have been cleaned when they haven't is probably fraudulent.  That's another matter altogether.  I say "probably" because I doubt that there is a single window cleaner who hasn't got distracted and accidentally left a window at some time.  It's especially easy to do when cleaning a lot of similar looking properties and getting caught up in the repetitiveness.

I think we are over cooking the chicken here, The guy just wants a new window cleaner. simples.

Any Takers ?

Too true.  There must be some reasonable reliable cleaner in the area.
Perhaps not anyone who comes on here though.

How to find / keep a reliable window cleaner.

Agree a frequency and price and stick to it. Pay rather more than you would expect. If yours is a ground floor Victorian gaff then it will likely have big windows that are sliding sash and a bit ropey on the frames. Not a pleasant job. So think in terms of a tenner rather than a fiver. Every 8 weeks is fine.

Some do's.
Say "Hi, Mike (Fred, Shirley or whatever) how are you?"
Say "I'm making a brew do you want one?"
Say "I'll pay you now and let you get on." (Or "I've got no cash but I'll pay you online today.)

Be friendly polite and quick in your dealings with the windy. We like FPQ and respond similarly.
Make a parking space available if you are in a difficult to park area.

Some don't evers.

Say "leave it this time please" when windy turns up and is ready to go.
Say "I don't like all that water on the floor" when he uses wfp.
Say "I'm on holiday next time so leave it next month".
Faff about getting your cheque book and keep the windy waiting.
Say "Can you come back later/ at 3.30/ next Wednesday."
Pay late.
Ask for the inside kitchen window to be done for free.
Expect paint spots to be removed free because you haven't got the painter/yourself to do a good job.
Ditto Fence paint overspray.
Ditto Sealant on the glass
Ditto Sellotape residue from when you left a sign for the last "unreliable" windy saying don't clean this time the Martians might be coming for tea.
Say "My dog goes mental when you call so only call on the fifth Monday in Julember at 6 pm when I take him for walkies."

If there is a genuine problem start with:-

"I hope you don't mind me mentioning it but ...""
"Confidentially, I'm afraid I'm having money problems and ..." (not let the windy clean for three months and then stiff him when you get chucked out by the landlord)

A bit tongue in cheek but I hope we understand one another ...  ;)
It's a game of three halves!

Ok so I was overly blunt, this is more down to the fact that I remember and got quite bored of his last search for a window cleaner. Also the last time I looked this was a Window Cleaning forum for window cleaners not for customers looking for one, there are a million and one of them a few of which have been suggested to him.

I can't believe how people talk to potential customers! and then wonder why windys have a bad name!

I'm guessing that your comment is directed at me as I'm the only one who has been 'rude'.

I don't clean in Leeds or have any intention of doing so, so he isn't a potential customer of mine & I would suggest the 3 or 4 forum members who last time agreed to quote him and didn't turn up would give WCer's a worse name in his eyes than my comments.

Right Richard let me be a little more constructive, you say your flat is part of a large Victorian house if you had the agreement of your neighbours to find a window cleaner for the whole property I guarantee you would have window cleaners falling over each other to get the job, failing that using a rule of thumb of £1 per window (£2 for very large ones) why don't you price up your own property and the next window cleaner who offers to do it 8 weekly for £5 you suggest you pay nearer the figure you come to (I know you shouldn't have to but there is obviously a problem with window cleaners underpricing your job), that way you should get a reliable window cleaner who thinks you are a great customer.

If you are still struggling to find websites and media in your search for a window cleaner I will happily post 10 examples.

It's also good to see that a clean set of windows is that important to some people that they take the time and make the effort to find that "good cleaner".

Well done mate  ;D

Why not post more details of your property type and windows that need looking after, a pic if possible is worth a thousand words an all.

There will be someone here soon that will pick up the work I'm sure, the're probably either all in the Pub watching the England Rugby  :( , or still being busy cleaning for lots of satisfied customers  ;)

Thank you VSP Home Care...  Having a clean house and windows is very important to me I would just like to find someone who is reliable and isnt going to keep letting me down.

I have posted before on here for a window cleaner when the previous window cleaner ended up going to jail for some reason (found this out when he returned 10months later expecting to pick up where he left off only to be told I had got someone else).

THe property is a victorian house converted into flats.  Mine is the ground floor property. however as the property slopes at the sides ladders would be needed for the side windows however still at ground floor level.

Dont really want to post a picture on the internet... hope you can understand etc.

Someone above suggested I clean them myself... most unhelpful as if I could do them myself or had the time to do them I would not be on here posting would I.

I have used this forum in the past for carpet cleaners and have found some very good people who were reccomended.

Thanks.

Type squeek and bubbles - hes a window cleaner in Leeds

THank you...

Few comments from me...

1.  Why would the fact that they are not doing the whole building put them off doing the windows?  Being a large victorian property my flat alone probably has the same windows as a standard sized town house.

2.  He was cleaning the other flats at one stage, I know he was charging a £5 for those as well and £2 for the basement flat (3 very tiny windows).  Other houses across the road which are not flats but the full size terraces he charges £5 for them.

3.  If I come to nearlly £10 as a figure then I think even suggesting I pay that to them if they are suggesting a fiver they will prob be no more reliable if I suggested £10 (5 yrs ago I used to pay £10 to someone)

ALso Al, I know you mention you got bored last time of looking for replies but considering I contributed in the carpet cleaning section of the forum etc I thought worth an ask on here for a window cleaner.  You are correct though in what you say last time I got offered a few people on here to do quotes, neither of which turned up and no response to messages.

HA, laughed at some of these but I am a good customer, he is just left to get on with it.  I work shifts so many times I am asleep in bed or out at work when he comes so as soon as I see his card when I get home I do a bank transfer of the payment he never has to chase this way and said it was easier for him this way as well as easier for me.

Actually your the fool to post such a sarcastic original reply... Saying how easy is that!  Given that I have already tried YP and google several times this is a good place to look and many people who have replied agree with me.

Yes they are and I thought this forum was better than that. Some of the replies have been most rude.

Is this how adults speak to each other? Very immature

Just wanted to give you guys an update...

The other weekend I had a quote done from someone who uses the waterfed pole method.  He contacted me through the site as he had come across this post.

Today he came back to do the first clean on them.  Fantastic guy, really friendly spent a good deal of time getting them clean.  I think the windows are cleaner than they ever have been particulary the surrounds.

The WFP method is really good as it literally rinses all the dirt off.

Hes going to be doing my windows every 8 weeks and I will certainly reccomend him to neighbours if they want windows cleaning.

All those who were quick to judge me when you dont even know me I thought were totally out of order - I am not a bad customer at all.  The trouble was with the window cleaner who clearly didnt want the work.

I am happy the job has now gone to someone who seems very trustworthy, responsible & polite.

Not sure if I can mention his name on here but he is reccomended.
