Window Cleaner needed for my house in East Leeds
« on: March 19, 2011, 02:25:37 pm »
Afternoon all...

Been a while since I have been on but my regular window cleaner seems to have done a moonlight flit!  Despite me seeing him in the street the other day and asking if he was doing my windows today (havent been done in nearlly 6months) he said he missed me last time because he was on holiday.

Suprise suprise though he didnt clean them the other day & I am still left with dirty windows... really annoyed as the other week I threw away a flyer that another company put through the door.

I am in Crossgates area so if you cover this area of Leeds please can you give me a shout as I am looking for someone to clean my windows.

Regards
Richard.

Richard,

In my experience when a window cleaner stops doing a house but continues to clean the rest of the street the issue usually lies with the customer. Be it a poor payer, rude or unreasonably fussy! Which one are you?

You say your windows haven't been cleaned in nearly 6 months yet you threw a window cleaning leaflet away last week!  I don't think your completely on the level.

Just what I can pick out from your post if we cleaned in your area I wouldn't be offering our services!

I think that's a rather rude response. He has cleaned my windows twice since he's been doing them I have always paid on time by bank transfer when he has left a card saying he has been. I have never doubted his cleaning or queried him on it till now whe he failed to attend.

Given the fact he has my contact details he didn't even respond to my email asking of he would be cleaning them because he hadnt been. I think it's more the fact he can't be bothered to clean them or feels he under charges me.

If he doesn't want to clean them why say when your approached that you will be cleaning them then fail to do so?

I have just spoke to the neighbours across the road and they say he has missed them several times as well... very unreliable.

Yes it was rather rude but it is often the case that a customer in your situation is often a problem.
IMO, the rudeness was in assuming that this is always the case.  It isn't.  Although it's true that there are plenty of good window cleaners who are messed about by customers, the reverse is also true.  I've taken on customers before who  have been dropped in the way that you have and I've wondered when the problems will start.  Often I will still be cleaning for them years later and they are perfectly good customers.  I can think of one instance when a customer used to tell me awful things about their neighbour (I wasn't interested though).  Several years later the gossip moved away, the neighbour asked me to start cleaning - and she is a good customer.
I work down in sunny Sussex myself so it's not practical to pop round and give a quotation  :) .  If you bump the thread a few times though I don't doubt someone from that area will be on.

Thank you Paul for your constructive comments... much more helpful.

I have had problems with window cleaners in the past missing cleans or doing half a job because htey know your out then coming round to collect the money only to be told, you missed the back windows etc... then trying to deny that they havent missed them.

Just a bit odd really that he has missed them again... he is left to get on with it and only communication I had with him was when he put a card through the door and I emailed to confirm I had sent payment through the bank etc.

It's also good to see that a clean set of windows is that important to some people that they take the time and make the effort to find that "good cleaner".

Well done mate  ;D

Why not post more details of your property type and windows that need looking after, a pic if possible is worth a thousand words an all.

There will be someone here soon that will pick up the work I'm sure, the're probably either all in the Pub watching the England Rugby  :( , or still being busy cleaning for lots of satisfied customers  ;)

Thank you VSP Home Care...  Having a clean house and windows is very important to me I would just like to find someone who is reliable and isnt going to keep letting me down.

I have posted before on here for a window cleaner when the previous window cleaner ended up going to jail for some reason (found this out when he returned 10months later expecting to pick up where he left off only to be told I had got someone else).

THe property is a victorian house converted into flats.  Mine is the ground floor property. however as the property slopes at the sides ladders would be needed for the side windows however still at ground floor level.

Dont really want to post a picture on the internet... hope you can understand etc.

Someone above suggested I clean them myself... most unhelpful as if I could do them myself or had the time to do them I would not be on here posting would I.

I have used this forum in the past for carpet cleaners and have found some very good people who were reccomended.

Thanks.

I get them done every 6 weeks - its a bit obvious when they have missed windows though when the others you can see out of them and the others you cant see out still!

therein lieth thyne problem - sorry, this computer is so old even the typing is olde style.

anyway, most window cleaners work monthly so if you were to go monthly (as opposed to 6 weekly) I think you'd have a much better chance of getting a decent reliable cleaner.

Also to give you an idea of price, we normally charge £1 to £1.50 per window, so lets say a double opener with a large window beneath will be at least £1 - so do a quick total of your windows and you will get a rough idea of what you should be paying (for exampe, a standard 3 bed semi with us is £8 to £10)  If you were being charged less then thats another reason why he may not be cleaning your windows.

We always charge a minimum of £10 if we have no other customers on the same stop.

Hope the info helps.

Either way, drop him - tell him you don't want him back because underpriced or not he should stick to his word and keep cleaning your windows.

Sorry its not 6 weekly its every 8 weeks he comes round monthly though allegedly.

He charges us £5, thats a price given by him and is the same as what the last guy charged us.

At a guess I'd say that price is low and that might indicate how he goes about his work, low price = low standard of work and unreliability to boot.

I'll assume you have no local friends that could recommend otherwise you wouldn't be here asking.

Everyone I've seen here so far are the opposite, I hope someone pops up and you find Mr reliable.  You could also put an ad in the rounds section of the site as I'm sure lots of people looking for work will scan through their regularly.

Your on the right path though, recommendation is the best way to go  :)

Pop into your local Doctors Surgery/Dental Surgery and ask for the name of their window cleaner - you'll find that places like these are normally very conscious of having clean windows and will only use someone who does a good job and is reliable - either that or try some high street shops.

Be prepared to pay more though for a quality service - at the end of the day you pay for what you get in life.

Just a thought.  Is there an access  problem getting around to your back windows? e.g. locked gate.

It's probably a case of the cleaner underpricing, more than him being a bad customer.
