Re: Job center not accepting my vacancies!!

I need 2 window cleaners to service a new round i have bought so i contacted the job center and stated that i need them to be over 25 with a clean license (for reasonable van insurance). They said that unless my insurance document states this (which is doesnt as i dont have fleet insurance as i insure each van with the window cleaner as a named driver) then that is classed as discrimination. I said ok take that out of the advert then , they said no we cant do that as because you have said this to me now and these calls are recorded you cannot advertise these vancies at the job center!!!!! It beggars belief that with unemployment as high as it is and as a genuinue and reputible company that requires 2 staff on a full time basis that the job center refuses to advertise my vacancies over this ...... i think this country has gone mad .... i cannot belive that this mindless beuracracy is getting in the way of 2 worthy and unemployed individuals getting a decent job with long term prospects :( >:( ???

I thought you already had a 2 man person team lined up for this.  Did that bit fall through in the end or are these two additional cleaners?
I hope that by mentioning "two" I'm not guilty of discriminating against odd numbers.

They turned up on monday morning and then drove off again.... maybe it was something i said?! So it is a low odd number of window cleaning persons that i might or might not need

age shouldnt be an issue, I started most of my guys at average 18 years old. If it costs a few more quid to employ someone by way of insurance, so be it.

I would never let the age get in the way, first and foremost, I look at the character of the person everything else is secondry

Blimey.  That's a drag.  Sounds pretty unreliable.  Did you contact them and ask why?
I take it you've got a lot to get through and insufficient labour to do it at the moment?  Mind you, at least the weather has provided some excuse while you are sorting it out.  Maybe spend a bit and mailshot (or phone) all the new customers as the circumstances are exceptional?  Normally I wouldn't be an advocate of that but as they are being moved to a new service provider, it could pay you to do this in the mid to longer term.

I have a young man as and he drives around all day with his foot on the floor (costing me a lot of fuel) and scrapes / crashes / dents the van at least 3/4 times a year. Is this not the case with you Dave?

This story is absolutely laughable.

I remember reading about a case where the job centre wouldnt put an advert that said "reliable person wanted" because it was discriminating against people who werent reliable!!!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/7079231/Advert-for-reliable-workers-banned-as-discrimination-by-Jobcentre-Plus.html

Its just insane, and we have the idiot labour government to thank for it all.

If I were you I'd put an email to the local newspaper, telling them about it.  Wont change anything, but might as well embarrass them a bit for being so totally stupid.

A year or two ago a profoundly deaf woman was given a job in a call centre, as it would have discriminated against her had they not. Stupid madness - rule brittania :'(

This is a joke.  The most annoying part is that this guy is offering two genuine jobs and instead because of bull**** red tape this is two more lots of unemployment benefit that have to be paid for.

Madness.
