ian

you need to find out if your problem is bones or muscle,  i went to a chrio as i dislocated my neck and twisted my hip,  all my gp did was give me sick notes and pain killers, i even went to the DSS doctor, who declared me having impared spinal function,  spent nearly 3 years on the sick, before i went

if you go to a sports massage,  they should test u to see where hurts as my misses mate is one and wont massage me for fear of doing damage, because i still have problems with my back, so am back under a chrio

for backs, necks,  shoulders and other pains like that - GPs are a waste of time. tas others have said they will just give you pain killers and send you for x rays which are no use for muscle problems.

personally i go to a chiropractor. My back was actually worse before i started full time cleaning. I used to have to go once a month, at my last visit it had been 6months. A good chiropractor, osteopath, sports therapist or accupuncturist will be worth every penny. But be sure to do your research and try and find one that is accredited and registered.

i like the sound of a massage once a month - maybe when the money is more steady i shall treat myself!!

Exercise, how much of this do you do?
I had shoulder, back and abdominal pain. Went to chiropractors for nearly 2 years, worked for a few days after the treatment, then couldn't wait to get back to see them every month. Went to the doctors as i was worried about the abdominal pain, they said it was probably connected to my back pain. Went to the hospital for an x-ray, the only thing that showed up was that due to using the pole in the same way each day, my spine very slightly was curving, but chiropractors had already discovered this. A friend  recommended a good sports physiotherapy centre, had a consultation, went away after 2 hours with lots of different exercises, had 3 sessions and not been back since. Outcome no pain at all anymore. Get the odd shooting pain in my thumbs, but no more pain in the neck, back or abdomen. So a few stretches in the morning and night, and regular exercise 3-4 times a week.
Worked for me, but as they say, what works for one person...........

sounds like your not cut out for this window cleaning lark!!

ive been at it 16 years and never had any trouble apart from the odd niggle in my right knee and a bit of numbness using trad poles on cold mornings!!

how old are you?im 38 and a bit overweight.if your too heavy you will have more aches and pains!

how do you work?do you push yourself everyday?or work steady and briskly and work say 6 hours "on the glass"so to speak?im more the latter these days.

i take cod liver oil capsules/glucosamine everyday.im sure they do me good!!

sounds like youve been burning candle at both ends mate.i dont think you can work hard all week window cleaning then start heavy building work!either one or the other!!

best wishes

this better be a joke. if not, these types of posts really anger me.
how can you say what someone is or isnt capable of doing. you only know what he has told me. if you had seen my physical state before i started full time cleaining you might  have said the same about me, but since going full time my back is in much better shape.

this dosent just apply to this post/poster. at other times people have come on and said they have lacked motivation, only to have someone reply "you are clearly not up to it, give up now." its just unacceptable. we rarely know the whole story on each other, so maybe we should hold back on the sweeping generalisations and know-it-all remarks.

just had to say that, the end!

probably caused by stooping over your laptop for hours on end.

Working in the rain won't help either  ;D ;D

See a good physio, take a course of Ibruprofen for five days (you need to keep it in your bloodstream). I've found all chiropractors use the same method of laying you on your side and basically jumping on top of you. Doesn't work for me. Acupuncture dosen't work for me either. I see my Physio every five weeks and strap myself to a Tens machine in between. All part of growing old  :'(

jonnyald

might be worth doing some running.this loosens the whole body up no end . not so long ago i took a long hard look at myself. ive only been at this cleaning lark 2years but iv a full trad round now and i was struggling to cope .i started running in the evenings(on grass) 5 days out of 7 and bloody hated it at first. ive since lost2 stones and about the same to go. im eating less and permanently hungry

BUT the upside is the jobs pretty much a breeze now !

Londoner

I've had a few sessions with the osteopath and aches and pains galore since going back into window cleaning full time. When I first went over to WfP My arms shoulders and neck suffered a lot but fortunately its passed off now.

ive got a pinched nerve in my lower shoulder
apparently its affecting my c6 ??? according
to my doctor, pain runs down my shoulder through
my elbow into my two end fingers.

i thought it was through lifting barrels but according to
my doctor because i tend to use a dead weight technique
when lifting meaning the impact is spread throughout my
upper body its highly unlikely

apparently its more likely an rsi injury through using pole
the repetitive strain has inflamed my shoulder hence trapping
the nerve.

the only thing this so called expert has prescribed me is
ibuprofen ::)
the only thing that helped whilst working is to change
hands and alter stance and when my left arm has healed
i will be alternating hands and stances on a regular basis

lesson learned the hard way i think :(

Ian, I was in SEVERE pain with my neck/shoulder a couple of months ago and couldnt even turn my head without turning my whole body....My brother recommended I go to his Osteopath (who helped him with his back)...

All I can say is it has worked absolute wonders and he pin pointed the problem area/muscle within 10 minutes of meeting him. Im not saying it doesnt hurt at all now, but he really knew what he was doing and showed me on his picture of the human body where the problem was and what was causing it, which turns out it was a trapped nerve .

It was £35 a visit , but was well worth it as Im sure you will agree , when youre in pain you will pay anything to get rid of it!

He also said that people that do physical work should have a regular check up with a qualified Osteopath/Chiropracter to make sure our bodies are "inline".. He told me that my neck/shoulder are naturally "leaning" to one side due the the work i do (ie looking up for hours on end!!) and constant arm/shoulder movements (pole work)........

This doesnt just mean the wfp guys, it can also apply to the trad boys ( ladder work)

Cheers Dave

ps keep the invoices as they are tax deductable ! ;D
