I'm considering setting up an account with someone like "Streamline" for a mobile credit card terminal, allowing my business to accept payment by credit / visa cards.

Has anyone else any experience with this company, or any others for that matter, and what are the pros and cons in your experience?

I would think that having a streamline mobile terminal will be expensive  it's better to have a web site and offer paypal payments cheaper to

I was told today be someone who uses them that it costs him £27 per month plus 35p per transaction; not too bad in my opinion

£324 a year with out the 35p per transaction plus you would your customers trust you if they had to phone with cards details ,  i would rather have an online payment system

but i agree with ivesons. paypal on the website is cheaper

Paypal is good, but not everyone has it.

We have a veg box belivered once a week and the bill soon mounts up, whan I forget to pay for a few weeks  they phone me up and ask me for payment by card there and then.

I might start doing the same it gets your money in quicker so maybe you have to borrow less.

It costs 20p a transaction and she passes that on to me, dont know if that would work with my customers though.

Paypal is good, but not everyone has it.

they can use thier credit card through the merchant account without needing to have a paypal account

Some people also have a deep mistrust of computers, my sister in fact wont give her card details across a pc.

I take credit card payments via the telephone. Charge 50p for transactions paid in this way. It is VAT free and actually turns a small profit. No complaints from customers.

It is a great way of chasing "bad debt".

35p for a transaction is actually cheaper than a SAE......

My machine is from a company called Cardsave. The account is through Streamline (RBS).

You can shop around, most banks do a card payment service, although I believe RBS have a 98% share of the British market.

I would highly recommend getting one, there are also mobile units that you can use to collect card payments at the door (these are a bit pricey).

Not only does this help with cash flow, it looks very professional too.

The money clears in 2 - 5 working days. 

If you ensue you get the postcode and house number of the registered address of the card it goes quicker, it also seems to go quicker for the debit cards as opposed to credit cards.

2 - 5 working days may seem excessive but, if you consider the time to return a SAE and then 3 days to clear a cheque it's not too bad.

2-5 sounds good the sae thats a no need cost, my phone bill I have to send payment as do my credit cards, they dont send a sae.

Started doing it in Oct 09.

I've had 158 so far (not much of an overall percentage).

Alot of that was bad debt that I may have otherwise not got.
