i could slip over in the supermarket, doing the shopping. But i aint gonna wear a helmet for going shopping

i could walk out the front door & a bird could poo on me  but i aint gonna wear a hair net

Ouch!!!!!! had that happen to me on an ice rink once, that's why I am the way I am, even when I am not.
Thing is, if everyone who goes up a ladder really thought safety first, then surely they would by default wear a safety helmet of some kind.
This post has got me thinking.

wherever there is a risk a helmet should be worn is this not common practise yet i/you have for years just never gave it any thought

i wonder how many lives would be saved if people up ladders used helmets?

i remember mountain biking for years without a helmet, except when i was dh racing, from 1993-2002
then i started using a piecase lid, and did a double mtb/bmx jump in my local woods, crashed and smashed the helmet in half! broke my collarbone too!

i think something like that wakes you up to how breakable you are, that was about a 10ft jump and 10-15mph.

so a ladder whats that 20 ft?

the way i see it, there is a risk in everything you do

you walk across a road, some divvy could come flyin down the road and knock you over.
what you gonna do? not cross the road?

you drive your car/van some divvy could knock into you
what you gonna do? Not drive?

you go up a ladder. and fall off.
what you gonna do??? NOT FALL OFF.

I reckon most 'ladder accidents' are caused by human error

next people will be wantin to drill eyebolts into every 'ladder' point and use harnesses

ALL ladder accidents are caused by human error.
Everything we do in life carries a risk, the trick is for your brain to take in the surroundings and things going on and asses the possibilities of an accident. So if you are working in windy conditions with a roof that looks a bit dodgy then perhaps you should consider taking some form of preventitive actions in case a tile slips and comes down.
I fear for this country that so called H&S has gone so far down a road of it's own that sooner or later we will all be confined to our homes incase it rains and we have a slip.

ryan the helmet and back brace ..yeah its not going to stop you falling. but if you did..it can only help soften the blow.

if anyone is bothered about a ladder slip, then hire someone to foot your ladder, or buy those expensive, bulky, ladder stabilizers.

if anyone is bothered about falling OFF a ladder..... stop over-reaching or buy a reach n wash

yeah. Be careful, your brush might snap off the pole, fall down, and hit you on the head

ffs we better start wearing helmets & hi viz when walking thru the high street, incase something falls off a roof, or someone walks into us..... at least then, we would have out P.P.E

I worked on building sites, commercial domestic industrial & agricultural sites for nearly 6 years. and the only bumps on the head i have had is when wearing a hard hat, because it restricts your vision.

I've slipped, tripped & falled.  normall due to not watching what i was doing, and your instinct is ALWAYS > HANDS FIRST

I think a helmet is a bit over the top but a back protector is a good idea i have heard off a lot off windys breaking there backs

Every other industry that you use a ladder at height requires you to wear a helmet why should window cleaning be different!
