Can i ask you again please
« on: March 05, 2010, 08:40:46 pm »
In a recent post of mine... i told you about my brother in law wanting to start up....

http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=91230.0

So i said i would help him build a round... in the end we talked about building a large round for the two of us to work on....

leaving my round out of the equation..( is that spelt right?)

But now ,he is excited, i am not....

i dont benefit at all do i ?..

and all i gain is a little more money...

plus a partner then , to deal with... and i may neglect my own round...?

Should i forget the partner thing and simply help him....

i just see problems ahead

what you think lads.?

I have been down that road, its full of pitfalls and problems

i would never go into partnership with any1 again

yes, help him out buy building a round for him, but keep the 2 seperate

yes, help him, but  you must let him do the DONKEY WORK,in his own biz .  seems youd get confused big time IF you tried to pull off a partnership

youv got to be cruel- to- be kind,in the right measure

build a round with him. then let him 'buy' into your round. and put everything together.

i would guess a good pay scheme would be 35percent for each partner and 30percent back into the business.

its much easier to have someone working with you, than working on your own. Perhaps you might have to put your ladder at a 'dodgy' angle. you'l need someone to foot it. Plus, the 'boredom' factor of working solo.

Of course he's keen he's seen what you've got and thinks it's easy. and he can be on the same level as you in three months.

If he was that keen he'd already be on this forum......

You live sleep eat and breath window cleaning, that's why you've been a success. When you aren't window cleaning you are thinking about window cleaning. This makes you a bit one dimensional as a person, but it is the tunnel vision you need to succeed.

You'll  notice that the more rounded (another word is normal) personalities on here are mostly only partially successful.

It's not a very nice thing to say, but most people hit a natural ceiling beyond which they can not progress. Call it a comfort zone if you like, but you need to view 7-8hrs @ £30 for 5 days as a good starting point and not an arrival.

I resemble that remark slumps! Actually I am neither "successful" nor "normal!"  ;D

And as I said before - I wouldn't.
It's a game of three halves!

u say that you will start a new round to work with him,  that then gets busy, whats happens to your round,   do u dump it, or do the work on your own, why he sits at home,  or do you get him in to help with ur round,, because before long it will all become on big round

is your month full now and is there any room for  say 2 more weeks worth of work a month,

becasue if you are building his business, yours will suffer

you got 4 choice as far as i can see

1   stay as you are,

2  help him build a rounds,  on your days off, that becomes his business

3   sell him part of your round then build that business, so there is enough work for both of you

4   employ him, then build up your business, so u got an employee rather than a partner

when i first started wc, i was looking for a partner, i had a van and all my gear, all they need to do was buy there own trad gear,  couldnt find one, so in end started up on own, and its amazing how many want to work with you once you are making money,  but dont want to at the start

I think you'd be best to stay separate. That way you get out what you put in and so does he.

You can share your knowledge, give moral support and go canvassing until he's got enough custies.

Say you have 500 custies, and with him you grow to 1000, the only net effect is that you pay 10% vat on your earnings from the larger round.

But, on the original post i was very impressed with the guy with two partners. They also had one employee and were about to take on another Ie, three vans and two employees.

A partner was in charge of each van, ideally with an employee. This system covered holidays and made money- so i'm not saying it can't be done, or done well. But to pull it off one of you has to be very smart.

we have decided to stay seperate and help each other as and when,

In the meantime we will both canvass hard to build him a round, and although my services should be free to help a friend and brother in law... we have agreed to reach a target which will give him a good starting wage...and i will get 30 %.

in other words we are going out of my area to canvass him a round,... and for every 7 calls he gets, we both canvass my area for my 3.

Thanks for all your replies guys.
