Thanks for that, Ive had a couple of calls in the past asking if we'd be interested in advertising in a magazine that is circulated to ambulance crews (sympathy vote?) and also to teachers.

Seems bizarre, not much of an audience really, limited numbers.

there will be more and more of them as the year goes by all with the same storyline and dropping the key words in like the emergency services or schools and charities.

right must go as Ive just got an email of the taxman telling me I have a £384 tax refund to collect,   I knew this weekend was gonna be a lucky one for me  ;D

I got all muddled up filling out that tax return but the really nice happy sounding Nigerian man was really helpful.

for some reason it wouldn't accept my acount details but when I gave the Nigerian man my pin number he sorted it for me.

he said this happens sometimes and I will get my money in 5 days

The last time I had one of those calls, I suggested that the ambulance people ask a fireman to do their windows as many of them seem to like earning a bit extra on the glass

Got a phonecall Saying thanks for coming on board the directory supporting the child safety campaign
which school would you like to send it to. I said I never signed up cheeky b*ggers.  ::)

In a moment of inattention, a couple of years ago I responded to a call from these people.

They didn't mention money, just that they wanted local business people to nominate schools in their area that they wanted these directories sent to.

I didn't even nominate any, I just told them to look in the phone book and choose any they fancied.

A few weeks later I got an invoice for £450 :o :o

I ignored it, of course.

Then the phone calls started:

"You remember you signed up for our 'safety in schools' scheme some weels ago...."

"Oh really?  I take it you have my signature on an order then?"

"Yes, we certainly do."

"And I'm the Ayatolla Komenea....on yer bike"

Over the next year or so I got regular calls from them, starting off all sweetness and light, just politely requesting I settle my invoice, then turning nasty when I told them where to stick it.

I had a lot of fun  ;D ;D

I developed some fiendish wind-ups and managed to push some of them to the brink of a breakdown ;D ;D

In the end they got the message and stopped calling me.

ALL THESE THINGS ARE CONS.  LOCAL DIRECTORIES, WALL CHARTS, NEWSLETTERS, ETC ETC.

If you sign up, you will get a 'courtesy copy' of the publication.  That is likely to be the only copy ever printed.

I was once asked to advertise in a local free magazine, I asked them for their VFD certificate (Verified Free Distribution).  They didn't even know what I was talking about.  I asked for a copy of the last issue and they said they don't give them out, but if I paid £** they would send me one!!

Treat them as they treat you, wind them up, lead them on, let them think you're going to pay them loads of cash

BUT NEVER EVER SIGN ANYTHING

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

dont even say YES on the phone, there is a loop hole in distant selling where all you have to say is yes
