Got a phonecall Saying thanks for coming on board the directory supporting the child safety campaign
which school would you like to send it to. I said I never signed up cheeky b*ggers. :
In a moment of inattention, a couple of years ago I responded to a call from these people.
They didn't mention money, just that they wanted local business people to nominate schools in their area that they wanted these directories sent to.
I didn't even nominate any, I just told them to look in the phone book and choose any they fancied.
A few weeks later I got an invoice for £450

I ignored it, of course.
Then the phone calls started:
"You remember you signed up for our 'safety in schools' scheme some weels ago...."
"Oh really? I take it you have my signature on an order then?"
"Yes, we certainly do."
"And I'm the Ayatolla Komenea....on yer bike"
Over the next year or so I got regular calls from them, starting off all sweetness and light, just politely requesting I settle my invoice, then turning nasty when I told them where to stick it.
I had a lot of fun

I developed some fiendish wind-ups and managed to push some of them to the brink of a breakdown

In the end they got the message and stopped calling me.
ALL THESE THINGS ARE CONS. LOCAL DIRECTORIES, WALL CHARTS, NEWSLETTERS, ETC ETC.
If you sign up, you will get a 'courtesy copy' of the publication. That is likely to be the only copy ever printed.
I was once asked to advertise in a local free magazine, I asked them for their VFD certificate (Verified Free Distribution). They didn't even know what I was talking about. I asked for a copy of the last issue and they said they don't give them out, but if I paid £** they would send me one!!
Treat them as they treat you, wind them up, lead them on, let them think you're going to pay them loads of cash
BUT NEVER EVER SIGN ANYTHING
