Has this forum gone down hill?
« on: January 10, 2010, 08:55:03 am »
I was forced to take a break from the internet for a month, so was cured from ciu addiction.
Having returned it all looks different - just full of back stabbing, stupid posts, repeated posts and general drivel. Has the section on 'anything but windowcleaning' been moved?

Is it me or maybe lack of mods?

If it's me then maybe it's time to move on.  :-\

Hi Jeff, have to admit I've been in the "I give up!" camp for nearly three weeks now. However I popped out to buy a cheap fan heater yesterday 'cos my tube heater is having no effect. I'm going to turn my van into a sauna later then wrap the duvet over everything to try and trap some heat then repeat every morning next week ready for a chance to get out.
Maybe this weather is the blame for the atmosphere on here but it doesn't feel the same these days.

Ftp, its always been this way, the forum hasn't changed at all.  I can think of loads of 'big fights' over the years and remember loads of people deleting their accounts in a temper.  Maybe your perception of the forum has changed, but everything you describe has always went on pretty much, and I've been here since the forum started.

But amongst all the bad stuff you posted about is a lot of good stuff too.  I guess you can just take what you need and ignore the stuff that annoys you.  Or you could delete your account, the forum would just carry on as normal.  I had a two-or-three month break early last year and was quite surprised to find out that the forum survived my absence; I'm still unsure how that happened.  ???

This time of year is a bit dead normally but this year even more so. People have nothing to talk about because nothing is happening and nobody is buying any kit.

Yawn, were not all sole traders you know.

Is there a taboo about mentioning those words you mentioned.

People who employed long before me really gave me the inspiration to emuilate them, no harm in that.

I'll tell you what we don't get on here anymore. Those marketing 'experts' with their Oh so superior attitude who really did believe they knew how to build a business using killer leaflets and looked down on the rest of us for actually doing the job instead of just talking endlessly about it.

They had read a few motivational books and believed they were a higher form of life. They have all gone now. Back into their little holes, they probably learned the hard way that in this business there is no easy way. Like the couple of franchise vans that I used to see around here but have now vanished again.

Isn't this thread EXACTLY the same as other threads and the individuals that participate in them?

People have differing opinions and voice them, whats wrong with that?

Perhaps I should have said nothing in this thread for fear of annoying someone.

Regarding Jeffs reference to a previous thread I cant see anything wrong with the replies, those that posted in it seemed to be simply asking questions or clearing up doubts they had about the topic being discussed, there was no back-stabbing or nastiness in it. Was there?

On reflection & after a good turnout ;D I've deleted my posts. There are subjects that arn't my cup of tea but I have no right to slate them. It's a window cleaning forum for anyone to use & has helped & entertained me greatly to be honest, but, there is only so much that can be spoken & only so many issues discussed so from time to time it will get a bit boring for some.

So, I'm off my high horse, for today at least! :-*

There's no problem with disagreement, after all that's what forums are about.

What isn't acceptable is rudeness and personal remarks.

I feel that any personal attacks should be immediately deleted by the mods.

Keep it friendly guys and keep up the humour - I've had many a good laugh reading some of the posts.

Just my view.  :)

We're just now having our first thaw in over 3 weeks!! on the ground is still 2.5ft but it's at least coming off the roofs, cars, trees etc. ;)

Feen (who posts on here) brought me some heat logs for our multifuel stove yesterday after reading my post the other day. It's our source of central heating & hot water. he has a 4x4 for his wfp work & it saved my butt!! Big thanks to him. ;)
