if the roads are clear down your way cant see why not get a few hours in.

Customers will still want the windows cleaned, makes me die its only snow the way some people think it is like the plauge has hit. If a customer cancels just because your cleaning windows would that be a customer you would want to keep, god help some people should we have this weather for months at a time, I think they would quickly find another job..

As long as it is safe to drive there and clean I would do it Squeaky.

you obviously have close links with another PLANET !        all news channels have been warning everyone about the awful icy road conditions and all motor and road agencies telling us that only go out and drive if its absolutely essential.           so anyone who ignores those warnings are either very brave or very stupid with the latter more true.

the greater of the population will have NEVER experienced such driving conditions in this country with the AA alone attending more than 25,000 calls alone just yesterday with more predicted for today.

I read some H&S posts on here but that all goes out the window when people act like they are desperate.

I know for a fact that customers are ok about not having windows cleaned in these conditions because Ive spoken to quite a few of my own and they all said they had no problem what so ever waiting till the thaw and never even expected me in these conditions.

like everyone else on here I need to work because the well is well and truely dry,   but I value my life and family so why should I risk it for the sake of getting a couple of jobs done if I'm lucky.

I dont care what you think of me,  one thing is for sure and that is
I'M NO MUG              ARE YOU ??????????
I did not saying anything about you, nor am I a mug, but if it is safe to drive then why not work. if you listen to everything on the news your are clearly nearer another Planet than I am.

Please read before attacking me as I do not either care what you think of me , did you have to many weetabix this morning or just felt like having a pop at a random person :-*

No way, no point.  I rang a couple of "key" residential customers yesterday who like clean windows.  I should have been to them 2 weeks ago and they don't like me being late.  They said, "don't worry we're not expecting you in this weather, in fact don't come there's no point!"

I have about 6 or 7 inches of snow here, the temperature is struggling to reach 2 degrees in the warmest part of the day.  I've told them I will be missing them this time.  If it's not the tank, hose from pump outlet, hose on hosereel, frozen connectors, pole hose, pole hose connectors, brush jets, risk from run off water etc.  What is the point!  2 weeks more at the most and it'll be over.

Fortunately for me we have other inside cleaning work to get on with, so of I go, in the snow.

I'm so skint I'm thinking of thawing out the van and trying to do something later, as it's supposed to be up to about 2 or 3 degrees later and it's cloudless out there.

Only thing is there's about 4 inches of snow.
Besides my hose refreezing in the snow, would it seriously annoy my customers to turn up?
I'd never dream of it normally, but just wondered...

But to be honest the van's absolutely solid right through. Can't even open the door. Is it worth it? ???

I can't even start the van.  It turns over but not enough to give a start.  Think I need a new battery.  Even tried jumping it off the leisure battery but wouldn't quite get there.  Not a problem today anyway as I'm going nowhere.  I believe it's the original battery on a 03 plate so it's done nearly 7 years so can't grumble.
I've done a jiob this morning but it's a shop front within walking distance (I often walk there even on a good day).  I cleaned the windows with neat screenwash and a little detergent (I do it trad of course).

Seems the general thought then really.
Well I'm about 2 and half or 3 weeks behind now, so nearly all my round is due!

This is good news, as it means I can move a bunch of bungalows forward by 2 weeks and they'll still be due. ;D

with most being a few weeks late, its a ideal opportunity to group them houses together, get the round organized and all that

cozy

They may not be expecting him PJ, but when we were out just before Christmas we had deep snow then. None of the custies seemed annoyed. If Squeaky can get out safely and get some work done, then if I was him, I would work.

I stopped guessing what custies think years ago. Not everyone sees things like we think they do mate. I think Squeaky's custies are quite close to where he lives, so if he can get out to them, then try it.

Its such a dilema but if YOU think you can work safely and leave the property in a safe state and your water will not freeze either today or overnight...go for it

The trouble is that our nanny culture is all about keeping lawyers pockets filled...so theyfill our heads with so much nonesense were all scared to do anything for fear of being sued...so combine them with the insurance companies and were all scared to do anything.

I don't think anyone can really answer your question...could you not give Tosh or Ian a bell and see what they think about the area's you work in?

Cheers
'Stay safe'

Dave.

My other half had a crash yesterday, wasnt her fault, someone drove into the back of her and she became a car sandwich with the car infront, she was on the phone to the insurance company for over 2 hours this morning.
looks like her car will be out of action for a couple of weeks, I am glad that wasnt me in my van otherwise I would be screwed.

dear oh dear Mork your ego is badly dented but you will get over it I'm sure ( maybe not )

so what your saying is ignore all the severe weather warning of roads like glass and freezing temps, and ignore what the AA  RAC AND GREEN FLAG and the POLICE FOR THAT MATTER   and go out because some w/c recons it might be worth it.

why do customers still want their windows cleaning ?      after all we are expecting even more snow and snow leaves the windows dirty after its thawed and gone but you clearly already knew that cos your a w/c

perhaps the rest of the country should take your lead and go out and drive   yeah thats the answer

as for the I'M NO MUG             ARE YOU ?     well that was a statement I seen on a H&S poster a few months ago about taking bad risks but hey your such a brave person so it clearly don't apply to you.

so make your self a nice cup of sweet tea and sit down for 10 minutes so you can come to your senses and realise I'm right

sorry don't do weetabix as I'm a porridge man  but first I need to roll my first big fat one of the day  ;D ;D

oooops left myself open there     silly me eh  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well although forescast for +2 today my thermometer out the back is saying -3 at the moment.

Do I waste electricty for an hour or two thawing it out, only for metal connections to freeze up within moments of touching the snow anyway?
It's no way going to happen with wfp.

Hoping to trad some bungalows later...

Squeaky,

I would try and learn from your present situation. When you get back working, try and save some money for times like this. I don`t mean cash for things like replacing equipment or vehicle problems but enforced lay offs. And try not to touch it  :).
We may not get weather like this for many years but it could be worse, you could be ill or something and not able to work.
I`m not preaching (I`m lucky, not sole earner) but it would give you a bit of breathing space for any further spells of not being able to earn.

I would if I could, but these days I don't have anything left over really.

The only money I've got is what I put aside towards my tax bill.

if squeaky is like me and has had snow since 17/12/09  then that pot dwindles i worked on the 21/12 then no more because of bad weather until 05/01 i may be able to work later today but the snow is really deep on streets and i have really struggled moving trolley around it will be nigh on impossible with snow we keep having and the cold temps,  snow forecast all week even when it warms up using the trolley will cause probs
