Workable or not...honestly please.
« on: January 07, 2010, 09:28:56 am »
I'm so skint I'm thinking of thawing out the van and trying to do something later, as it's supposed to be up to about 2 or 3 degrees later and it's cloudless out there.

Only thing is there's about 4 inches of snow.
Besides my hose refreezing in the snow, would it seriously annoy my customers to turn up?
I'd never dream of it normally, but just wondered...

But to be honest the van's absolutely solid right through. Can't even open the door. Is it worth it? ???

look at it this way,  say you did manage to get out and clean and due to the adverse condition you lost control of you van and had an accident ?     a few hundred pound repair bill and thats just the van,   what if you got injured.

I think you need to think long and hard before you dicide if its safe enough

In all honesty no its not. Safety first for you and your customer. And a few cancelations from unhappy customers can result in quite a large sum of money lost over the course of a year. 1 house £10 X 12 cleans - £120 pa from just 1 loss.

Do it squeaky. I thought the same tuesday and was pleasantly suprised that the only comment i got was a smiling "you're keen."
My pole hose froze up after 2 hours though, so couldn't continue the run.

if the roads are clear down your way cant see why not get a few hours in.

Customers will still want the windows cleaned, makes me die its only snow the way some people think it is like the plauge has hit. If a customer cancels just because your cleaning windows would that be a customer you would want to keep, god help some people should we have this weather for months at a time, I think they would quickly find another job..

As long as it is safe to drive there and clean I would do it Squeaky.

p.s the only reason we are not working as vans are stuck at bottom of hill, and the promised land is ok, but my plane broke down so am stuck here :'(

with your hose trailing through the snow it will freeze quickly

the main roads will be drivable, the side street will not

will the customer expect you around ( i dont think so ) will they mind if you arrive and clean ( i dont think they would mind )

is it worth it  ? ? ? its not for me, i worked in the snow on tuesday, only because i had to get it done for the management company, i rushed it and was away far quicker than normal

Cheers guys. All the places I'd be in are sidestreets and mostly hilly, so it's not good to drive or walk on.

I need the money so badly, but I guess I wrote this to get "permission" not to really, so I wouldn't feel so bad about not working.

Are there any jobs you could drive to safely on main roads that have been gritted? Doing 1 or 2 jobs in the warmest part of the day is better than doing nothing. I've plans to go out about 11am and do a little work if the roads are safe to drive on.

you obviously have close links with another PLANET !        all news channels have been warning everyone about the awful icy road conditions and all motor and road agencies telling us that only go out and drive if its absolutely essential.           so anyone who ignores those warnings are either very brave or very stupid with the latter more true.

the greater of the population will have NEVER experienced such driving conditions in this country with the AA alone attending more than 25,000 calls alone just yesterday with more predicted for today.

I read some H&S posts on here but that all goes out the window when people act like they are desperate.

I know for a fact that customers are ok about not having windows cleaned in these conditions because Ive spoken to quite a few of my own and they all said they had no problem what so ever waiting till the thaw and never even expected me in these conditions.

like everyone else on here I need to work because the well is well and truely dry,   but I value my life and family so why should I risk it for the sake of getting a couple of jobs done if I'm lucky.

I dont care what you think of me,  one thing is for sure and that is
I'M NO MUG              ARE YOU ??????????

Seems the general thought then really.
Well I'm about 2 and half or 3 weeks behind now, so nearly all my round is due!

This is good news, as it means I can move a bunch of bungalows forward by 2 weeks and they'll still be due. ;D
