Paul,

Your aproach is Ok. I go out with a team they knock I qoute

Our aproach is we are in the Area.

However I am revising this stratergy as it means I always have to be with the team.

The other reason i like the team aproach is it helps to keep me boant.

All,

Further update.
Went up to Bourton-on-the-water yesterday, along with some of the villages in the area, mainly to test my results of the first day. COncentrated on houses either of incredible quality - i.e. very old type small manor houses of age ( 4-5 bedrooms and over) farmhouses and executive type residences in the villages. Some of these houses will be worth in excess of 1 million!

Did around the same number of houses, (approx 50). Had a lower number of people taking time to talk, although the SAME number poitedly refusing. So the number not having time had gone up. Again, left info and a card.

Now the important part. This time, came away with 20 booked quotes out of the 50. Only 10 that I had talked to for the full 'sales-pitch'. The other 10 have come from those I left information with.

All quotes appoitments are to be confirmed in writing by letter.
These have gone out already and will be with prospects by tomorrow morning!
All quotee's will receive a phone call the night prior to confirm.

I have had ALOT of feedback from all people I have chatted to and the main area I am most pleased about is the fact that approx 75% have thought about carpet cleaning, but would not use yellow pages etc.
The majority of these were also women!
Those that had considered using adverts to get someone in were Men!

I will be doing more of this over the coming weeks and intend writing up the results for my own benefit, anyone who wants a copy of results, along with what I use as a basis of my chat, send me an email with your details.

Just note, these will be mu own findings and I am finding it works for me. It may not work for you in your area. Please bear that in mind!

Paul

I started out over 20 years ago working for Homecare as a door to door salesman and I found that the best houses to work were the middle and working class areas not the high end of the market, because they may live in a 250k or more house, you will find its mortgaged to the hilt and money is really tight.

I use to start knocking doors at around 11.00 and finsh around 17.00 with time off for lunch.

The way I use to go about the door knocking was quite simple.

Firstly I would knock the door and explain to whoever open what my name is, what company I represent.

I would then explain that will are currently working in the area and could I give them a quotation for their carpet/ upholstery and curtain cleaning, if they declined I would thank them for their time and leave a business card for future reference.

If they agreed to a quotation I would inspect what they required cleaning asking as many questions as I could about the item to be cleaned ( how old- when last cleaned-what stains- what make of material etc) all this I would write down on the quotation.

I would then measure the items to be cleaned and then explain what the cleaner would do (Pre-test the fabrics- pre-vacumning - treats spots and stains move furniture apply de-oderizers etc)

I would then move onto the price, and with Homecare they had a 2 price system, which is to say a "normal price and a "price because we are working in the area" and its more cost effective for us to send a cleaner out to more than one household at a time.

You would then ask the customer if they would like to make a booking there and then, most would go with this option, some would like to speak to partners which is ok because your will be-able to telephone them this evening to see if they have any questions they might like to ask.

Now when I was at Homecare most of the reps would target the big houses hoping for that big sale and they would get about 1 sale a day and not always a big one, myself I liked the smaller houses but I use to average 8+ sales a day.

Most of these sales would be small jobs but its a foot in the door for their next clean and there recomendations

Homecare was a very big Carpet & Upholstery cleaning company with offices in London and Birmingham don.t know whats happened to them now.

As far as the wages where concerned the sales reps where paid a small retainer £45.00 each week and then commission of 25%.

The cleaners where also paid commission on the work that they carried out.
