Hi Guys
Ive been canvassing now for a few months and am doing ok. Been thinking lately about hiring a canvasser to ease the hours i work and make the business more efficient. What i was thinking of doing is giving them the first cleans value but was wondering about giving them a basic pay.

I will be canvassing also allowing us to expand our residential faster so i can then concentrate on getting commercial work. I going to try this method for faster growth instead of canvassing companies as our own in house canvassers will have our interests in mind when they go knocking. I can train them with our pricing and what we are looking for

1) Does anyone employ a canvasser and whats your paying arrangements?
2) How many hours a day would your canvasser work?

then i will set them weekly targets say 15-20 customers a week. if they dont hit targets after a few weeks there gone. next one in.

i have tried it that way before lee. i found they start with a bang, then get worse and worse results. If you can be hard enough to get shot if they don't meet targets then it probably would work. i got sucked in for a while until i got rid

i think if the lines in the sand a drawn at the start it could be a winner.


Just tell them if they dont hit target for say 2 or 3 weeks in a row they will be gone, sometimes they wont hit target but that may not be for lack of trying so thats ok but its the consistant crap that needs to go

also it may be about finding the right balance of pay and commision to keep them going out, it wants to be worth there while but not like canvassing companies 2 or 3 times value.

i would give them the basic first to get them on board. most people won't work on a commission only basis. It takes a certain person or someone that has been in the game before to know they can earn good money at it on that pay structure.

Give them a weeks trial if there no good all you've lost is about 70 ish quid

well this was my idear also but it depends how your going to get them. i called the job centre yesterday to see about advertising this. they will only advertise jobs that provide a minimum wage basic or more, no commision only jobs.

they will lee you need to fill out a form to say that the commission will be above the minimum wage. I've done it already before. but i didn't get anyone apply for it

Why would you not want to pay a basic wage then commission ?

Put them on minimum wage for x amountof hours , then commision

But you expect x amount of work if not theyre gone

its simple

you can get shut if they dont hit targets consistently , all other canvassing companies do this

however, are they going to be PAYE if not you cant pay a wage for self employed or you will be getting in trouble

i just have a guy who is self employed coz hes quite local hes happy with taking the first clean value he usually hits around 80-120 a day sumdays he dont do too well he got 52 quid today off two houses, gives me no worries then if he dont get any on its down to him

Like richy says thats how i want it to be. They are self employed and i get work for next to nothing

Pay someone a proper wage and you can expect someone to do a good job.
