top of the pile is still top of the pile

yes i honestly do, i "web master" for a electrical contractors site in london , he has 2 sites on the go ( both done by me ) 1 is on a free host and NEVER shows up on searches ( except google maps ) the google map moves about the top 10 sites to be in the top few, i know the split of people that visit the sites and e.mail and its very close

so yes i do think they do

each to there own, can I add one thing to theis Matt that sort of defeats what is said:

listing  natural work becauese not farmed or pid for, anyone with a little knowledge knows this, then paid listings, then free.

Do you really think as I said before the free map listing will work better than the listings ? as in the search listing, if you do you clearly dont have a clue what your taking about web master or not, and this would shock me as I hold you as quite clever at things like this even though we like to argue.

if they was that good google would charge do you not think  ::)

i have just googled " window cleaner swanage "

just because i have been speaking to someone today about a campsite jut outside swanage

right here goes

the top 2 paid for ad's will get max exposure

then we have the google map with 7 pins

then we have 3 listing sites

then 4th is a legit site with SEO

now lets ignore the paid for ad's as most " man on the street window cleaners " will not pay google

so we have the google map to click on the links

i wonder how many hits the legit site thats 4th placed gets over the google map

now this electrical site i look after , i see and pass on all the e.mails, i filter all the crap out and just forward the legit stuff that the guy needs to respond to
i know that the google map free hosted site ( its with web.com ) doesnt have that much hits less than the other site that has a good ranking ( and is also submitted to biz search sites etc etc ), notice iam, i didnt say do better, its not better its ever so slightly worse, but not much in it

Please try and stick to the point, which in case you had forgotten is slating Tosh.

 ;D

But have a look at this page from my e-review:

it cites www.clear-view.co.uk as a good window cleaning website, and it is.  Its not flashy (though the Thermopure kit is), its simple to read, and simple to navigate.  There's a contact number on every page, and on the Services page there's his number twice; just for the 'thickos' who miss his contact number.

I reckon its the best window cleaning website I've seen.

Home page:-

Para 3  should be "storey" and not "story"

Para 4  customers' - not customer's (it's plural)
It's a game of three halves!

That's exactly why I want a website, to act as a brochure; anything else - such as being found in a google search - is a bonus.

thats what most window cleaners want, just to look that little bit "special" with a website on a biz card and flyer

I think a site adds a little kudos to a business.

It doesnt make you more legit but it makes you LOOK more legit.

Also dont forget Tosh you must have your office address listed on the site otherwise you're breaking the law.

ive had a look at a few.a lot seem to have terrible spelling mistakes!if u have already got a full round and not interested in employing.is there any point?maybe if u get custys to pay by paypal etc?just makes it all too impersonal like the self scan checkouts at supermarkets IMO!i like to meet and talk to custys.some send me cheques,a lot pay when i clean then i collect once a week for 2 hrs which TBH i enjoy most of the time!!i have contact number on WINDOWS CLEANED TODAY slips along with gutter cleaning/conny roofs advertised/ive got leaflets and business cards as well.i think for a one man band like me its not necessary.just my opinion.

Well you could take on better priced, easier work, with nicer customers and drop the ugly ones you don't like maybe?
