Gardiner carbon modular poles the sections are stuck
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:27:21 pm »
I've had this pole for around 3 months from new it has 10 sections, will reach around 61 feet. only used it 6 times, from new but having problems pulling section 1 & section 2 apart & section 4 & 5 I always greese each section and don't force the sections  together, today this has happened again but this time could not remove them the pole feels reel bendy at 7 sections do you think as the poles bends it is tightening the sections to the point that they can't be pulled apart. This weekend i've got to use all 10 sections on a new contract any help please.

p.s I am useing superlite brush & goose neck

Do you use the electrical tape trick?

no, do you mean tape below each section to know the depth

no, do you mean tape below each section to know the depth

Put the pole together and tape the male section, just underneath the female section to act as a 'stop'.

We do this with DIY poles!  ;D

Carefull though, because the poles won't slot inside each other in a tidy fashion.  I lump all mine together in a ski bag!  Another tip, from Matt, is to use different colour electrical tape so you can easily see which two peices of pole slot together.

Here is a pic the blue tape on the bottom 14.5 section  is the buffer,Two turns should do,do all the sections like this and still be stackable

You don't need a lot. Heres my Gardiners Superlight. Couple of turns is plenty and they will still stack.

If they do stick you and a mate twist anti clockwise wearing rubber gloves and "inside out" gaffer tape on each section.
It's a game of three halves!

And if that doesn't work, pick up the pole and try it.  ;D

Spray WD40 in there periodically before trying to untwist them (one person on each section).

I had to destroy a number 2 section to remove it from a no 1 section.

Most times i can unstick them, but one time we just had to grin and bear it and destroy one section to salvage another.

Didnt realise they were still stuck, get a hot air gun and heat up both sections untill you cannot touch them then cool down the bottom section, do it at least 4 times with water or let it cool naturally. Last time just leave it cool. Then go to bed. In the morning try undoing them. :) repeat until they seperate, they just go easily all of a sudden. (its ok they are baked in an oven when they are made and are fire proof.)
It does work I have done it quite a few times now. The tape trick is mine and it also works. Using a lubricant doesnt do much except push the joints further together, you really want a bit of wear  and the buffer tape to stop compaction, so they are easir to work with on a daily basis.
Hope this helps as they say  :)

Same here. Have been unstuck successfully between me and my neighbour many times. But have been beaten by it once.
Gotta get another bit now.
Brilliant pole though. Takes alot of stick.

Having just brought a superlite i am reading this with interest ( and  worry!)

I know PTFE lube and Vaseline is used to keep the sections free but perhaps something a little more heavy duty
could be used ?  has anyone tried/tested copperease/molyslip antiseize grease - would this be ok or damage the pole or you can get silicone grease used on electrical stuff.

Sometimes all this lubricant has the opposite effect. I jammed a couple of sections just after they had been treated with a fresh coat of ptfe spray the night before. It allows the sections to slide together even further and jam tighter. The tape trick always works for me. Also try not to assemble the pole in the pouring rain and keep the joints free of grit.
