No macmac there’s no need to dissect your review. I’m sure on the whole it’s a reasonable if limited review, the only thing that does stand out now, is from the date when you posted this is I do think Facelift lift have far superior quality and by a huge margin, carbon fibre Facelift poles will probably work out to be the cheaper pole over time if you have to keep replacing the Gardiner’s pole.

I'm still using my slx daily, it's not just price to be considered though, usability!!!!!

Usability you mention in your review seems more concerned with the closed length and ease of use for doing ground floor work.

You could do what NWH (I think) mentioned and cut a few inches of a facelift, shortening the closed length and reducing the weight.

Which would be the better pole then?

The slx, as you still can't get away from 4" clamp surface of the facelift, you'd have more, shorter sections!

Hey, what a brilliant idea! Pay a fortune for a carbon Facelift, hacksaw a load off and throw the bits away! Now that does make good buisiness sense!

Maybe pay for another section and a clamp to make a shorter pole. Ewan you are cracking up boy!

Very good point, the only way to overcome that would be to have one extra section. To make up the difference in clamp size and also giving you extra reach or longer pole.

Or just have the pole a few inches longer when closed (the difference in clamp size only) but with the same amount of sections.

Would either of these be a better pole?

They are both good poles but who's gonna spend £7/800 & then take a saw to it?

Also, wouldn't that make the facelift "not fit for purpose"? You might get peed off with a bit of grit in the pole but spend £700 & then have to chop it down with a saw!!!

Facelift is a fine pole I understand but to compete with the SLX it has to be the same collapsed length, the same extended length, the same weight and rigidity and be cheaper on price. As far as I can tell it doesn't beat the SLX on any of those points.
Ewan, google the Gardiners website and have a look at their S-MAX range - look at the extended lengths and collapsed lengths then google something else that compares favourably with it.
I know you are keen to attack Gardiners for some reason but why are they so popular on here? It's because at the moment there are no better products available, they have taken the lead with their pole designs.

I don't know I only own the one make. You would need to ask Pingu and Macmac as they own both.

Errrrr so why didn't you buy a Facelift then Ewan  ???

There’s good and bad points about both these poles ftp, but if people keep posting only the good points and play down the bad points. It’s never going to be an accurate view or review of these poles.

I tried to mention these poles are overpriced and got it in the neck from the people who buys these poles and not really from the manufacturers! Who you would have expected to respond in the same way as the customers did in defending there products prices.

Wfp system manufacturers have a broad range of prices. Ionic, pure Freedom for example. I just think the same applies to all equipment.

You're right, in a sense & that's what's happening. Gardiners have brought to market a better pole for less money! Maybe facelift will improve theirs & reduce it's price to compete. All the others will be watching & also trying to compete.

But, at the mo', in this market as it stands, this is the price for these products, we have to accept that.

till someone new comes along with a better idea I guess. thinking back of the scaffold poles that are tucker to what we use now is great, now if tucker came up with a pole like they have now but smaller, lighter and erm shorter sections but lasted as long, anyone with half a brain would buy one, sadly this is not the case, for now Alex is the cat with the cream and fair play to the guy and he keeps trying for better. so all good

Just a little off track but these new clamp levers really do seem much stronger than the previous issue...well done Alex/Gardiners... ;D ;D

I dropped my SL-X/cutdown today from a garage roof and all the clamp levers survived...tommorow I'll try driving over them and see what happens.

Cheers
Dave.
