Traffic V's Transporter

My little brother thinking of changing his van (Renault traffic) for a VW Transporter, He's about to start wfp! Whats your view guys? Which one is best??

I have a T4 transporter and have had a few problems with it i.e. lock barrels breaking, speedo packed up, fuel indicator/warning is dodgy and I've seen smoke coming out of the steering column just before starting it. but apart from the battery & starter packing up its been reliable  ;)

the VW Transporter is famous for is quality, you have to be very unlucky to have a duff VW

 Yep that's me all over Mr unlucky I quite accept that although mine hasn't let me down completely I have been unlucky with minor faults, and cost put aside I would buy another one not a t4 though, the gearstick is better on the dash.

I am looking for another van early next year.
Last week i hired a lwb 130bhp  VW model and it was a dream to drive. I have driven loads of traffics and i dont think you can compare the two.

I have a T5 swb its drives as good as a car nice high view, great turning circle
I have one issue not as economical as I thought but then that could be I like to hear that turbo whistling !!! ;D

I have a Trafic and its awful. Have a lwb T5 2.5 coming next month. Better residuals, reliability and build quality (IMO)

I have a Trafic.  Drives nicely for a van but they will take a long time to live down those gearbox issues even if they really did rectify them for the 55 plate.
The sad truthg is that although my van runs OK, I simply have never trusted it.  It needed a gearbox change at 39,000 miles.  The van has now done 78,000 miles (do the maths).  I'm dreading what the next few thousand miles might bring.  Of course it may be just fine but there's no way of knowing.

I agree. I have no trust in mine whatsoever. I don't know but maybe a 650ltr tank with everything else i carry is a strain on a 1.9 engine. Or maybe i just had a Friday afternoon one. Less than 80,000 miles and absolutely everything has gone wrong with it. Fingers crossed for the VW or i'll be having a moan at Alex ;D

A Trafic (read Vivaro/Primastar) has a payload of just over a ton for the 2.7 tonners.  The 2.9 tonners have a payload of just over 1200 kg.
I bought a 2.9 tonner for the extra load carrying capacity.
