Best/Alternate Bucket on a Belt
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:46:10 pm »
Time for a new BoB. I've used different types over the years, and none have been perfect so I'd like your input to help me decide which one to try next.

Unger Original (right handed): PLUS did the job, MINUS only holds one squeegee, no quick release (although I understand that may have changed now)

Unger (left/right handed): PLUS quick release, holds two squeegees, sits at the right height for me, MINUS Left handed mop cut out acts as a spout and gouts water all down your leg. (I've tried waterproof trousers which are too hot for this time of year, gluing bits of lino in to the bob to divert the water flow, etc)

Pulex/Tubex Blue: PLUS holds multiple squeegees, quick release, MINUS still has a spout effect through LH mop cutout, hangs far too low and bangs the side of your knee.

Ettore Black: PLUS quick release, MINUS only holds one squeegee.

What I want is a Bucket on a Belt that doesn't pour water down my leg, hangs high enough on my hip so it doesn't whack my knee and holds two squeegees. Quick release would be nice but is not essential. Are these four the only Bobs on the UK market or are there others available? Have you got a link?

I realise that different Bobs work for different people so what I'm after is not "you can't beat Pulex/Ettore/Unger" but "Hey, have you tried this one?"

Cheers!

Yeh go wfp, obviousy you still need ladders for odd jobs...(horses for courses) an all that, sorry theres no answer to your question, but i dont know how any WC works with a BOB!
especially in the winter when half your thigh has frozen solid ???

carry your mop an squeegee ;D

WFP! Why didn't I think of that? Just the job for cleaning the inside of customer's windows!  ::)
As for carrying mop and squeegee, I'd rather have somewhere to stash them when I'm up a ladder, rather than watch them spin to the ground off the sill!
Someone must know of another type of BoB that does the job without giving you arthritis of the hip!

That was an option I was considering, have you tried one? I worry that I'll end up with too much stuff hanging off my belt, but that has to be better than a wet leg, I reckon..!

Wet leg is a pain. I have a cloth going through the loop and a rubber band/velcro/zip tie holding it to the BOB . It helps keep me dry when I'm doing insides.

I have found that the fluffier the applicator the wetter the leg.

My mate has a cheap waterproof jacket that he ties round his waist. The body of the jacket hangs under the bob so stops him getting a wet thigh. But it just moves the problem down to his knee. I can't believe there isn't a better design out there!

i cut down my blue pulex bob ,made it 4 inches shorter ,it trimmed real easy with a penknife . this then allowed my 14 inch applicator to sit right to the bottom and get properly wet . i also cut about the 3 outer channel slots(made the front into a flap) so that my wet sill cloth sits there keeping all the wet stuff together . instead of the crappy strap that fixes the pulex to your belt i use 2 small quick release clips this stops it swinging around

Try an etorre porcupine applicator sleeve, you'll cure your wet leg as it's very slim & so doesn't scrape the top as you put it back in. I used to get a wet leg when I used unger monsoon sleeves.

Etorre side kick- looks good but very impractical. Too narrow, a proper leg-drowner & the squeegee holder doesn't drain back into the main chamber resulting in a wet rubber end after 5 mins.

Unger (the one that holds 2 squeegees)- good bit of kit, handy scraper holder although scraper will rust quicker if you use it. Squeegee holders DO drain off back into main chamber & it's cheaper than the sidekick.

Hi,

I have my Ettore bucket on a belt on my trouser belt, just the right height with no hitting my knee or water spillage.

try wearing your boab around the bit below your hips. i can't believe it took me so long to realise this. two benefits, doesn't pull pants down or pinch the fat between two belts and the boab hangs away from the leg so drips fall away.

i use unger

plus

good capacity of water, 2 squeegees slots

minus

can damage blades if you don't keep edge blunt with scraper
the slots are open to main water compartment and can cause sudding to the squeeegee

Why do people keep using a BOAB as a bucket on a belt? You don't fill it with water, you just use it to hold the applicator in, never a wet leg! D'oh!  :D
