I've lost one due to a job loss and another because he's a mortgage advisor.

But there's no one single 'big employer' round here; so I guess we're lucky.

I'm guessing that if you live in an area with, say for example a car manufacturing plant, that employs thousands of 'locals'; and that firm goes bust or cuts everyone's wages/hours; and you have a lot of customers from that factory, then you could lose a few.  Not to mention the other jobs that are off-shoots; relying on that big company's trade.

However, from the little I understand, the last big reccesion in the 1980s really hit the blue collar workers.  But this one is different because it's hitting the white-collar workers in the South-East due to the subsequent growth from the 1980s into the financial sector.

I could be wrong though, I'm just a window cleaner; and a Geordie one at that.

GWCS  :) some of the posters on this site have not yet felt the effects of the recession. i clean retail and lots of the shops are really struggling, some have cut back to every other week. it will probably get worse before it gets better. other window cleaners i know are feeling the effects as well; and i imagine that some of the posters are reluctant to admit that they are losing customers in case others feel it reflects on their professionalism.
traditional cleaner, shop windows and some pubs.

I dont have a massive round, but i have lost 5-10 and a few every other time, but most are cutting back rather than losing jobs, but i have picked up more than enough to compensate, so i wouldnt say i have been bashed by recession , YET , fingers crossed :)

All of my losses have been commercial £700 a month down and counting :'(
Residential holding up ok, most of my resi customers are retired (seaside town) so they are alright, but all my shops are cutting back, one job has gone from 3 x £8 a week to once at £7.
Round here there were hardly any jobs to start with  ::)
But I'm still picking up new work, go figure

It's weird like that for me too. Mostly the ones I have lost are ones I have been glad to see that back of anyway.

That's me exactly, picking up alot more than I lost but still worried I might loose loads.

I had a guy a few weeks ago leaflet all my customers offering to do them for £5.00, I charge between £10 and £12.00. I didn't loose a single one but my stress levels went up for a few weeks.

I'm losing more than I'm gaining, but still have a lot more work than I need.
I was going to have a cull at end of last summer, but put it off when things started looking bad, glad I did now.

Not as good as squeaky but picked up two new domestic custies (recommends off existing) today and got a primary school I quoted for ....

Haven't lost any domestic since three tiny (£6 council bungalow; £10 semi and a £6 front only) ones went in Nov/Dec. In fact one family I clean for - three houses and two have lost their job have kept me on.

It's a game of three halves!

I have not lost any since November, I am also gaining 20 plus new customers every week from door knocking, I want this to raise to 50 before the end of april and I am in talks with some commercials which should be worthwhile if I get them.

My new cleaner will be starting in 6 weeks with another 2 planned before christmas.

There is still plenty of work avaiable.

rather than lose a custy, try and move them to monthy or every 6 weeks, at least until things subside, at least you are keeping hold of them,
