What is it with Brodex?
« on: March 21, 2009, 08:24:53 am »
I am new to WFP. Wanting to look at a manufactured system before deciding to buy or build one myself I booked a Brodex demo. Now let me say the kit is good - well made and with good quality fittings etc. The van however looked as if it was more than tired! I know they are not selling the van as well but its all part of the impression that you form surely? Anyway demo was ok but eventually realised that the, as my van will have to do both window and carpet cleaning the footprint of the unit was too large. The solution from Brodex - New Van! (yeah right!). Follow up phone call from Brodex a week after to which I explained my situation. "We can do a unit in a trailer - we'll email you info - guess what? - nothing!. The free pole from the demo as per the ad? - still waiting!

The kit is good but what is wrong with everything else with them?
In the meantime I'm investigating a self build system - every other supplier? - great service and responses!

It's a pity really, I bought my system from Brodex some years ago now. At the time, you couldn't fault them, the MD, even met me one bank holiday weekend to supply me a much need pole section and at the time they couldn't be any more helpful.

Over recent years i moved away from them after having a few problems.

Brodex, if your still using the site....

Equipment, i rate as top quality....

Service, You need to get a grip.

Rob.
Life used to be full of up's and downs....now i hardly ever get up a ladder :) .

don't you love DIY snobs.
people who have had a major fall also think about ready made system, because they don't need the added stress of sorcing all the bits along with everything else going on as they are recovering. :(

think i was a bit harsh saying lazy
what is the benifit of ready made systems all you get is a pretty looking tank, and all your bits arrive at the same time, thats it
these system manufactures prey on new starters who have little product  knowlege, this site has a wealth of information, and people will fall over themselves to help
i just dont like to see people paying over the odds for something when its so easy to put it together youself.

Just spent a pleasant sunny afernoon starting on the installation of a diy system (which does fit in the space available) Its actually very enjoyable! And I've saved myself more than a few pounds of course!

A coloured (matches van) 400L from Restormate. Secondhand 100m of microbore on steel reel, 100psi Shurflo pump and digital controller from adepta, s/hand DI vessel with new resin £35 from ebay. Brushes I here you ask (free!). I reckon thats hard to beat in value terms - maybe neare £500 than £450 but it can be done at low cost and it looks great!

excellent !! Well searched out bargains !! looks like you've got the basics right !!

thing is, at that price, you can get out working, then add to it when or if the need arises.

You don't mention an Ro ?? is that what you meant by DI vessel or do you not need an ro in your area ??

You might want to add a second battery at some point wired to a dual charging setup which most caravan places or car stores would sell !!

best thing I did . . your main battery won't go flat and leave you stranded and you won't have to keep taking the second battery out to charge it (Although I do travel regularly so it get's a good boost)

OK here are the answers:

I live in North Devon - its a soft water area. The TDS from the kitchen tap reads 079 so its not too filthy to start with.
Why spend more than you need to? I have a space issue as my van has to do both carpet cleaning and window cleaning. Certain tanks (and ready to go systems) have a footprint that is just too large. I might not have spent much but i'm more than happy that this kit will do the job.

Business thoughts? Well I'm taking on an existing business so there are customers waiting already.

Hope that answers everything.

Buy another DI vessel & use them both in sequence (if room permits) this way you'll save a lot of money on resin, also, when you come to buy more resin get DOWEX or TULSION (tulsion from DA services) ;)
