In reply to someone saying its all claptrap on Peters forum....

Depends how you look at it - if you want to beef up your sales & get the prices you really need then send a question. From all the topics on this board, I think pricing is a major one. If you want to double your prices - ask him how its done. Everyone keeps saying - "ooh can't get those prices round here." You could if you knew how.
Why do Nike sell more than no-namers? Why do people pay more for something they can get cheaper? How come Kevin is turning over ten times what you lot make? If you want to send him a question for FREE - then why not, you've got nothing to loose.
I keep seeing postings of loosing customers & putting prices down!

Kevin? er cos he has some big commercial contracts compared to the residential types like me.

Nike, cos they are a world famous sporting goods manufacturer, and people want to wear world famous brand names! (not to mention they have the best technology and designers in the business).

Would you want to wear Armani, or will George at Asda do for you?

Personally id like Armani, but then id be a twat wearing expensive clothing with a brand name on it, compared to some poop label that will last just as long at a 1/100 of the price.

So not unless you canvass rich types, you wont get double or triple from the working class, who will laugh at you, and say i'll use £5 stan that does next door.

What have you got to loose - write an email to Kevin with "Robinson-Solutions" in the subject line. Ask him how - its free. Explain your problem. If you can increase your earnings why not?
p.s. I am not on comission, I do this for the benefit of my peers.

I think this is an odd post, yes I think we all learn from others and certainly the ols skool boys have some useful advice they can give to newbies, but if you take a twenty year vetrain and a ten year vetrain, its is more than possible that the ten year vetrain maybe further along with his business that the more experienced. I guess my point is that experience is not always wisdom, and if you have a problem then post on here and get many response that will let you pick out the things that you would like to try, rather than waiting weeks for one guys opinion.

For some reason this forum wouldn't put Peters up there. If you go to the blog you will find it from there.

Why is this an odd post? Why do you come on forums? Is it just to pal around or gleam some new info? This guy is good at what he does - he's offering his advise for free. He has some fresh & insightful views on the subject. I am a veteran I learned a lot from this guy. I work in the 80% residential market - I have followed some of his advise & its paid off - big time.

Fair play, and I am sure he is a very helpful bloke but my point is if you have an issue, surely its better to see more than one solution, and decide for yourself what is more suited to your situation. I would rather make my business decissions myself and simply listen to different opinions, as thats pretty much all it is, not right or wrong.

I do appologise, I did mean to say your post was odd, I more ment the seeking a solution from some sort of guru so to speak, and I dont mean that disrepectfully to you or the guy. I have seen some of this guys vids before and thought he was quite insiteful.

I guess to be honest I like this forum, because I have many things in common with the other members and often common problems and solutions and this has let to me getting some very good advice which I will bear inmind the the future, and ofc ourse the banter is always fun aswell.

robinson-solutions.blogspot.com/2008/04/breaking-book-news.html

Well his book arrived on Wednesday and I though I would have a "quick" look through it to see what it could teach me........

Now I don't read books very much...... well in fact not at all really.
Its not that I can't read but its more that I find it boring. Well I read the book from cover to cover to cover today and what an eye opener it was. Loads of good ideas for marketing campains and advertising. It doesn't do it for you but it gives you the right "ideas" to put in to practice. If it just contained templates then everyones flyers, etc, would all end up looking the same, although there are a few pictures in the book to give better examples.
The chapters are nice and short and straight to the point unlike some similar books that waffle on and on before getting to the nitty gritty of it. Plus as its written by a window cleaner for window cleaners its very easy to follow the line of thinking.
I'm going to put some time and effort in to a small advertising campaign in Jan-Feb to see how it goes and I'll let you all know how it works out.
The only down side to the book is that Kevin didn't use a good proof-reader to check his spelling and grammar before sending it to print but that is a very minor thing.
I'll be refering back to it time and again to get new ideas for upgrading my customers. I'm not after becoming a big company and all the headaches that come with it but I want my business to be as profitable as I can make it and as stress free, especially with the money issues at the moment. I'm sure this book will help me make it more enjoyable for my customers to part with their money.... ;D

In my opinion its well worth the £50. I know that sounds and is a lot for a book But if all you get out of it is 1 more £10 every 8 week house, that would pay for the book in under a year and then your in profit from it...... But some how I think it will have paid for itself at lot sooner than that......  ;)

Regards
Mr H

My result was 79/100.  11 out of 14 right.  The three I got 'wrong' were:

Curiosity/guilt - it's a bit difficult to see how you could generate curiosity about window cleaning - about WFP maybe, but the usual reaction is scepticism, not curiosity.

Cross selling/ Up selling - as we're in the repeat business, these two gambits are counter productive - if you have hundreds of regular clients whose job's are second nature to you, any distraction (extras like gutters, soffit fascias and other 'one offs') will reduce your long term income, rather than enhance it.

Free e-mails - I have enquiries@ianlancaster.co.uk on my website, but my general address is ianlancaster@blueyonder.co.uk.  Most prospects trying trying to reach me through e-mail are via my website.
