How do you remove Self Adhesive Fixing Tape
« on: February 22, 2005, 03:17:53 pm »
Hello everyone

A customer has used "Self Adhesive Fixing Tape" to stop a rug moving on their carpet. The tape is similar to Blu-Tac, but softer, blue/grey in colour, and is used to secure carpet gripper bars in doorways.

The carpet is a cream/beige synthetic twist pile, with synthetic backing.

On inspection the adhesive tape has stuck to the carpet fibres, and I am concerned that the dye in the adhesive may stain the carpet.

Has anyone come across this problem ? Any ideas as to how the adhesive tape can be removed, if at all ?

Any input would be appreciated.

Many thanks  :)

Only last week I had the same problem with double-sided tape for rugs on carpets, tried pulling it bit iffy then used steam first to remove tape came of like a dream, then Eco-spotter to remove glue residue.

There is also something else on the market a glue which is sprayed on rug and then laid on carpet eco also works on that, would like to name the company who sold it to the customer but wont all I will say thank you for the £200 claim

Nick,

I have used white spirit thousands of times and never blown anything up.

When rinsing the detergent will emulsify the white spirit so it is no longer flammable.

Alcohol based products are also flammable , brandy on your xmas pud!

Cheers,

Doug

The approach I try to take when giving advice on these forums is to follow industry standard guidelines. But like you, I too will sometimes use different types of product that would expose an inexperienced technician to a greater risk of damage. With knowledge and experience, we seasoned pro's can sometimes get away with murder ;) But newbies could be locked up before the victims head reached the ground :o

SAFE and happy cleaning :)

Though I have yet to try white sprit on carpets, I know what it’s like when you get it on your hands even after washing them god knows how many times the smell of it lingers   What do you use to remove the smell?

Ken,

As you have probably guessed I'm not really an industry standard man BUT I do come from a chemistry background .

Len,

Maybe it's my poor sense of smell but I find any soap /detergent will get rid of the smell.

White Spirit is cheap, readily available and removes a wide range of stains that detergents don't touch.

Cheers,

Doug

Perhaps after using it in whatever circumstance I need a good swif of ammonia and smell again, it funny how the hairs in the nose give a false impression.
