slate alex gardiner day
« on: August 05, 2008, 11:17:16 am »
just lately ive noticed some of you slagging off alex's hard work. im not being funny guys but if your so good why arent you out supplying and making equipment yourselves?

alex works hard and is not only a supplier but also a window cleaner so he know what he's talking about. it takes alot to be a supplier in the game and to be fair i think hes done a pretty good job. i dont know any other supplier who is so helpful on the forum as alex. his replies are promt and helpful.

i havent used the new brushes yet but i will, and i know for a fact alex has spent some considerable time making them. the slx ive heard is a super pole and i would love to have one.

i dont like how you are all slating him to be honest. ive ordered a few things from alex and the service is probably one of the best ive known. and therefore has gained my trust.

my sl2 is by far the best bit of equipment i have used and has now paid for itself and now im making money with it. ive never had a problem with it and on one job i use it all day long, makes the job a breeze. no sections sticking toghether as i have put it together correctly and used the spray that was supplied with it.

so all i would like to say is thank you to alex for your hard work and keep it up!

and when the rest of you start making poles and brushes (yeh right) be prepared for your slating

Totally agree with your views on Alex there, i don't feel anyone is slating Alex at all, just people passing comment on the brushes - some will like them some won't, everyone's different and you won't please everyone. I'm not mega impressed with the brushes yet but i have bought two. I have got faith in Gardiners products so i'm sure i'm going to adapt to them. The poles are superb i agree, again one or two of us have had problems. 99% of my kit is Gardiners but i will pass comment on how it performs good or bad, but because they are such a good helpful company to deal with you feel bad to critisize their products. It's a risk Alex takes using this forum but i'm sure he's seen it all before.  :)

Hear Hear!!!

I 've bought a few poles and bits and bobs from Gardiners and have been very happy with the quality, price, turnaround and the friendly and helpful girls at the other end of the phone - Great service.
I am currently holding out for a new pole that they will be bringing out soon. Apart from the reasons above, I buy from them because Alex is a window cleaner and he knows the pros and cons of certain tools, what needs modification and improving and has good experience with competitors poles etc.

I strongly believe that with Alex being a window cleaner he is on our side and not just a sales man trying to flog us his wears!

I think its good to have negative feedback when needed, just makes you want to get better and better, if everyone said the slx, sl2, brushes where spot on that would be the end of it but im sure alex is in his workshop right now (he is as just spoke to him) working on improving products and making our lives easier, and i dont see many other companys making much difference at the minute except maybe just change the color of there currnt poles.

i dont see anyone else doing a better job and as competive prices as alex

alex is hands on. putting his and our feedback into his products. other suppliers just get stock in...

yeh fairplay constructive critism is good. but i just think alex should be praised for his hard work at the end of the day.

nothing personal at all but lets face it the guys a business man
and by the looks of it a good one he provides the products that people
want allied with good service.

but people are entitled to there opinions on the products be it good
or bad. as far as i can see gardiners have welcomed opinions whether
it has praise or criticism makes good business sense.

i cant understand though this attitude of (excuse the expression)
kissing  backside

the end of the day gardiners like the rest of us are in it to
make money.

I think Gardiner's supply a great service too LWC.
I would like to say though that when two sections on my own SL2 got stuck together, I had followed the instructions to the letter.  It wouldn't happen now though because the experience has taught me that on larger jobs - particularly ones where I need to scrub a lot, possibly knocking the sections together more tightly - I need to separate the sections occasionally, respray them with the supplied PTFE spray, and allow them to dry while I am doing lower level work with a telescopic pole.  It's really no problem to do that.  The only problem I had was not knowing that in the first place.  Also, I didn't realise then that sections were more easily separated by turning them clockwise while pulling as I found no mention of that in the manual.
Stating that is not slating anyone.  It's just sharing my experiences to help others.  I'm sure that Alex has no problem with me doing this either.  Eventually I will probably need to replace certain sections but having the SL2 has allowed me to do jobs that I would otherwise not even have quoted for.  I imagine that sections 1,3 and 4 will need to be replaced in the next couple of years at a cost of a bit over £150.  When you weight that up against the several thousands it will have earned me by that time, I've no problem with that.  All poles wear eventually anyway.  In fact, one of the beauties of a modular pole is that you can replace sections as and when required.  OK, so you can do this with a telescopic too but with much more hassle (re-fitting clamps etc.).

I think the reason that alex gardiner is liked is simple.  He gives customers what they want.  Seems obvious yes but its amazing how many companies forget to do it.

And yes he does it to make a living, not because he's a nice guy (though I'm sure he is)

Alex has sent me things before without a proper explanation of what i need and all the right bits always turn up,it`s simple he knows what he`s on about and uses what he sells not many can say that.

I have to say, though, I remember reading a hilarious thing on one of the "alex..." threads.  Someone was asking what pole to get and the answer one guy gave was

"I would recommend the <whatever it was> pole from gardiners.  I'd highly recommend it, you'll find its the best out there barr none.  Forget all other poles, you wont get better than this.

I have not ever actually used it, by the way, and I dont know anyone who has, but I'd highly recommend it"

I laughed hysterically when I read that, and to me that says it all about the alex fanboys.

out of all suppliers i have used alex is certainly the best and as long as his prices stay competitive i will carry on using his equipment, i am sure he makes a good living out of it and good luck to him if any think they can do better then they should start their own business supplying their stuff and see how they get on.

alex has put in the work and is now reaping the rewards so well done to him, with hignsight a few might have done the same but they didnt so no point moaning about it.

thats the thing when praise is due it gets little when something not so good happens everyone gets a voice, it is the world we live in.

Alex will have a thick skin to this as do I, Alex's service is very good I cant knock it, quick delivery phones back if asked to as a supplier I think this is a good thing other do not do this and I have used quite a few.

Also Have to mention Kirsty G in this as she also phones back when asked to (Kirsty if your reading this sorry for asking you to ring back three times :-* )
