How much do you try to earn per hour on domestics
« on: June 27, 2008, 10:59:32 pm »
There have been quite a few topics on this so for the new boys on the block thought this poll will show what they should try to achieve. When I joined CIU it opened my eyes, treat your job as a business and price accordingly.

No matter what area you operate in, some will pay it ;)

The only thing is that new peeps won't achieve anything like the earnings of others until they are not new anymore.

When i started, people on here said to price up at £20 p/h for trad. Trouble was i was only capable of doing probably 1/5 of the work that a seasoned wc could achieve. So if i had priced up jobs on those terms i would have been charging too much to have got the job.

Good earnings can only come from experience of your kit and of the jobs you work and that takes time.

I must admit to being inspired by the earnings posted on here though. i do enjoy reading the earnings threads, but i suspect many earnings posted are the probably the best 5% of anyones work and ignores the other 95% of jobs, or the behind the scenes work that goes into running a business.

What are you afraid of the world and his wife taking up window cleaning?  ;D
I just hate these " how much " posts , as there is so much hot air to fill the o2 arena  ::)

After 6 years most are about £20-£25/hr
Have a few at a daft £60/hr whilst there are still some at £15/hr

It's not a hot air post but just to give people ideas on pricing, I got stuck in the rut when I first started when old pros told me to charge 50p per window. If I did that I would not be in this industry.

Times are changing and will get harder so will we. For example a new start monthly outgoings.

Mortgage £600
Household bills, Council tax, gas, elec etc.. £500
Food Biil £700
Fuel £300

Total £2100

Yearly totaly £25,200

Working weeks you will work in a  year 48 , divide £25,200 by 48 = £525
Average working days in a week 4, divide £525 by 4 = £131.25
Average working hours in a day 6, divide £131.25 by 6 = £21.87

I would have to hit £21+ to cover basics, so as a business to cover costs I would have to earn double!!!

Hope I make sense but we should not be in this job to be struggling, any business is out to make profit so why not window cleaning.

The above figures are just fictional so please do not pick faults, it is just trying raise awareness that we should not be struggling in this job. Hope I make sense ;D

hi

That really depends, but, if your in town on an average estate you will be looking at £15/20 but if you hit the country side and get some larger properties then 50 is achievable

As long as you earn enough to pay your bills, what does it matter.

Some say aim for £20 an hour.  Figures like this are achievable only in some areas.  Other areas might get you £50 per hour.  Others still might get £10 an hour.

Although it is nice to earn decent money, remember that there are other advantages...

£10 per hour (more than most office-wallas)
No boss to get on at ya
work when ya want
take time off when ya want
finish when ya want etc etc etc

But, money makes the worlkd go round, so get as much as you can for your efforts.  Just remember the national minimum wage is about £5 something an hour.  If you get more than that you are better off than about half of your customers

And your posts continue to provide me with reason to believe that your mother dropped you on your head as a kid.  Idiot.

You have no idea about how to conduct yourself.  I may have made one error of judgement (which was taken out of context, and for which which I appologised unreservedly), but you make stupid remarks and inflamatory and insulting comments on a daily basis.

People like you, who continually bait others for your own amusement deserve nothing but derision for your lack of wit and your childish and insulting retorts.  Do you get beaten up often?  I imagine you do if this is how your parents taught you to speak to people, particularly those about whom you know nothing.

I can only assume that you are as despised in your RL as you are by me here if this is how you tend to talk to people.

I started window cleaning after suffering a nervous breakdown due to the workload as a psychiatric nurse.  I needed to provide for my family without the pressure of an institutionalised environment, and I had always wanted to work for myself.  My recouperation, which is continuing, provided me with the ideal opportunity to fullfill these requirements of my life.

Just goes to show that not only are you an ill-mannered imbecele, but that you do not have the mental capacity to imagine people having reasons for thier actions that differ from yours.  Hmm, I remember saying as mch in an earlier thread.  Amazing how you feel that you must continue to place your feet squarely in your mouth every time you open it.

I take time off when I want for the reason that I HAVE A LIFE outside of my work!  Do you?  I work in order to live.  I do not live in order to work.  I am happy, my family are happy and my customers are happy.  I earn enough, as does my wife and we live comfortably.  What more could a man want?

Dosser I certainly am not (I have never been out of work since I left school over 19 years ago).

You however, are a TOSSER and will remain so till the end of your days.

Grow up and stop trolling in an otherwise interesting thread.

Don't over react to tennant.
Relax Sanity.
Don't try and win every argument.

Without getting personal I tend to agree with tenent (sorry) lots post about time off and finishing when they want. That means dosser to me too. I know you aren't sanity.

My local paper runs profiles of business men. How they started their business, what they do, their heroes and role models etc. Very often in answer to the question what is their ultimate ambition they say to retire by the time they are forty.

This drives me nuts. They say they love business, and then in the next breath, to do nothing would be their goal?

I think they are dossers too.

I also take offense to the term dosser!!!!

I worked for five days this week. I finished when I felt like it (earliest 3pm latest 6pm), I worked on Saturday because I chose to spend some time with my family on Thursday the weather was good and the wife was off.

I am self employed - I am my own boss, I do start when I like, finish when I like, and have a day off when I like, however most of the time I enjoy work and I am very productive which gives me these choices. My bills are always paid, I have a reserve in the bank to allow me to take on bigger and more adventurous projects which I do regularly - I bought a new van and a new system this year as well as several other bits including the full Omnivac set up.

I really dont consider my self a dosser - but I do have the choice to have the odd day off when I choose!

Some people really should think before they speak  ;)

what a lot of rubbish!! would you want to be the richest corpse in the graveyard? i wouldn't. I have drive and ambition but my ultimate goal is to enjoy my life in the later years. My mrs's grand father was an extremley wealthy man, a high flying lawyer that had over a 10 million pound property portfolio. He had a house to die for which looked over a bay in cornwall. he ran himself ragged till late into his 70's, he never knew when enough was enough! in the end he couldn't leave the house from suffering from asthma as he smoked 40 fAgs a day from the stress of it all. he used to drink a bottle of whiskey a day just to get 4 hours sleep a night, what happened to him in the end? he dropped dead when his mrs was out shopping! whats happened to his money now? i guess she is living the life of riley. If that is what drive and success is suppose to bring you then you can stick it!!

you need goals and aspirations to motivate you and drive you, not knowing when enough is enough is simply a weakness! if someone's goal is to retire and have a fulfilled life by the time they are 40 and live the other half of thier life in pure relaxtion mode being able to afford what they want when they want then to me that is something to strive towards and would be an ultimate goal to anyone.

We're not all sad desperate-for-money work addicts.

Some of us do it to pay the bills, and have a life outside of work.
