In the areas that I work I have had to turn work down as i have too much, and as the wfp is a lot quicker than traditional you have to price accordingly (which is usually cheaper) and if the cussie is not happy with wfp and wants trad then i charge more for getting me ladders off

Why price WFP cheaper? Should be the same or more as you are cleaning more. Don't forget running costs and extra petrol to carry that water. Must be mad to price cheaper if WFP just because it's quicker. :)

I am picking up work off trad cleaners and charging double what their prices were. I don't feel guilty about it as the customers are willing to pay it for a better clean. No offence intended to trad cleaners by the way, it's just how it is. :)

I think the "just a window cleaner" stuff probably comes about because IMO it is hard to think of a job that is so useless.  ;)

I've been to customers that haven't had their windows cleaned for six months and they still looked fine from the road.

You'd notice it if your rubbish wasn't collected for six months, but windows........?

It's never going to be a vital job to anyone and to many it is just a tradition.

Hence IMO the lowly tag. We probably deserve it. LOL

What we do for a living is very small in the grand scheme of things and possibly it would do some of the "big business blokes"  good to sometimes realise how insignificant what they do really is.

When I have told  people there are forums for window cleaners they think I am making it up.  ;D
Cheers,
Neil

The main difference between us window cleaners and other trivial jobs is that we really graft for a living unlike many others, simply because of the earning potential. If the earning potential wasn't there half of us wouldn't bother doing this job and put up with being labelled as just a window cleaner.
I'm a metalsmith by trade, but if anybody asks me what I do, I tell them I'm a window cleaner and proud of it. I run a successful business enabling me to pay my mortgage (on my own), all the other bills, credit free, not up to my eyeballs in debt like the majority of this country and hold my head up high with pride not shame. I enjoy the flexibility of this job and wouldn't swap for a glorified title and job position in some better perceived job elsewhere.

never think about it,the only thing that interests me is how much money
i can make so my family and myself can enjoy a better lifestyle.i would
shovel sh**e if it paid enough worrying about my status what a waste of time
and energy if people who dont matter to me percieve me as substandard because
i clean windows so what its only the people who are close to me whose
opinions really matter :)

I couldnt agree more. 8)

I believe that the "only a window cleaner" is something that is in our own self perception, and that perception derives from the lack of consideration many of our customers show us.
It's what we think they are thinking about us, not the way we think about ourselves.
We have all felt it at some time, a customer that owes for two months cleaning drives past you, making sure that you are invisible.
The cars in the drive, the tellys on, but there's no answer when you knock, 5 mins later the car has gone.
The windows that you pushed shut 10 mins ago are open again, but they don't answer the door.
You posted your cleaned the window slip saying collect on Thursday, Thursday comes and they got no money.
Customers of 10 years standing write out a cheque leaving your name blank. Guys I could go on, but you get the gist.
When people treat us like this, it's no wonder that "yeah, I'm only the window cleaner" feeling effects us.
We just get on with it, and smile when we count our pennies.

wel discount its not a matter of only coming on when im bored its more a matter of finding the time to come on here.
This is the first night i have been home this week before 11pm and far from bored i have watched the turks beat the croats on penalties

Recently i have been very busy at work and have had my dad in hospital my mum in another hospital and my mum in law in a third hospital so in between running everyone back and forward and continuing to drive our business forward i really haven't had a moment.

Then there are the Chamber of Commerce meetings the charity we support and the team we sponsor

Even the school where my son has just finished his sixth and final year has had so many award days etc i am constantly running around and then my 21 year old daughter and partner announce they are 13 weeks pregnant!!!

So i would love to come on more regular but BLOOMING LIFE GETS IN THE WAY lol
