All quiet on the SL-X front?
« on: June 08, 2008, 09:59:49 pm »
Well now, hasn't it been quiet on here about the above lately!

What with the "record breaking Topic" on the Harris Decorators pole!

It seems to have cooled on responses!

Well here is a left-handed reply:

The SL-X is the pole I find myself reaching for...ground floor, first and often second floor...

The reasons are simple (sorry but I can't be bothered with a video)

I love the clamps, they work perfectly for someone left-handed
I love the length of the sections, they are perfect height or raising the next section
I love the rigidity of the pole fully extended because it is so well balanced
I love the pole fully collapsed because it is the first telescopic pole I have used that balances in my hands perfectly whilst cleaning ground floor windows.

Am I happy with it and its cost?   Most definitely yes!

As someone close to me said today..."Why is a 'professional windowcleaner' trying to prove that a 'Decorators pole' is better?  They are made for decorators!"

I don't have time to experiment or butcher with tools from the wrong trade, or to simply seek notoriety from this obscure means(w/c forum) of competing, I just want to help fellow professional windowcleaners keep us looking like that, as a trade, not as a diy image.  Youtube is useful but not the real world.

In conclusion, my message is - If you want to be professional, then buy and learn to use professional tools made by dedicated companies who make professional tools and you'll find that they will suit your professional business.

If you want to be a diy expert doing diy jobs well that's ok too, but try not to get the two confused. ;) 8)

All we need now is a proper brush to go on the end of it,the bentleys rubbish and all the others are far to heavy for that pole over a certain height.

I must say that the Ionics multipole brush is quite all right weight wise. It's 330 Gram I think, while the Bentley is 240g (I think).

The bentley is a out and out floor brush at best, the multipole brush like you say is not to bad on it but it`s still not good enough.

The brush questions and answers are totally relevent to this thread, this pole is seriously under performing due to no desent brush for it.I`m not using mine at the moment due to this brush issue.

Maybe it would be more productive if you asked:

What brush are you using to make it so successful?

Instead of rubbishing the subject.

Try an Ionics type dual trim.

No problems in 3 years

Has the SLX been out 3 years then, that`s news to me.And as far as brushes go i`ve used every 1 there is,your thread is about the SLX pole let me tell you that without a good light brush the pole is under performing.

The two best unique selling points of the SL-X pole has to be the perfect balanced weight when using collapsed or fully extended. I haven't come across any other pole that is balanced so well and I've tried almost all makes of pole available.  The different lengths of pole sections make it very easy to reach the clamps individually because they don't collapse onto each other allowing easy access to each clamp individually.
I've fitted a Tucker brush on a swivel connection to this pole and consider this to be my best pole for using on ground floor work up  to 2nd level work. It is in a league with Facelift & Ionic poles. Height for weight and balance ratios, it beats them hands down. It has my approval. :)

Well you must be an expert then!  Replied to NWH

Just talk about your problems someplace else!

I have made my comments knowingly, I would like others to read them unhindered, but that is already impossible!

I have been using this pole with a dual trim monofilament brush for 4 weeks constantly and so decided to make a comment,  I'm already wishing I hadn't, but, guess what?

I love it and will continue to use it the way I want to.  It's paying it's way and earning my living.  What else matters?

I`ve done that, and Wayne i like the pole but the clamps are not as good as the facelift clamps. The facelift pole can be collapsed down quickly as if it`s clampless in use,the SLX can`t if you even try this it will slam down on the next section and push out the end stop and jam the pole tightly shut.Like i say i like the pole but it still needs fine tuning in my opinion and more importantly needs a good LIGHT brush for it to work to it`s full potential.

I've used ergolite, multipoles, and Gardiner G/F pole all for nearly 3 years,
this one is best.

Some people are saying exactly the same about the Harris pole!

Fair (sic?) comment.

But I haven't spent any time developing or making it then playing around with it.  I just get it out and use it.
I didn't really mean this to be a slanging match, I'm just a grumpy old man.
It's all good.
But I've made my point and why I use what I am now using.

Oh, by the way

I also use the SL 2 45' modular with a bentley brush.
I don't like the brush but it has to be light on the end of that pole
Anything lower I use the ionics dual trim
Can't get on with anything else, but would like a tucker.

I'm just a grumpy old man.  Did I say that already?
