My new ones are the same Joe but it does'nt seem to be like that for everyones. I asked about that yesterday and they said it can take a about 5 days for some of them to kick in to the rotation/random positioning. Sounds like a load of cobblers to me but we'll keep on top of it and see what happens. If no change then I will chase at the end of the week.

With all of your subsidiaries Pete how many calls do you tend to get a week on average?

Paul are you going out to quote every one or phone estimate them?

I'm trying to work out  the best way of dealing with Yell callers.

I would say Shaun that if you discount Jan/Feb I get about a call per branch per week on average (with some branches performing better than others of course). What i have found is that the coversion rate on calls taken as they ring is at about 70% with those I miss it's about 40%. There is a valuable lesson here though. If someone is using Yell they are looking at a list of CCs in their area. They are also using a very quick (I have decided to buy now medium) unlike many other forms of advertising (leaflet etc. whey they can keep it buy the phone or something in particular has grabbed their attn.

The point is, it's important you take that call because there are few other mediums that offer you an alternative service provider so easily.

Would be interested to get Pauls take on your other question but to be honest I find that they are slightly more inclined to get that quote on the phone but if you are a good communicator the home survey is not often required and you still get the job at a decent price. Classic example today. Woman rang for quote on double bedroom and said I am "ringing round for some quotes" . No furniture and lighty soiled. I asked her if she had ever had a carpet cleaned before to which she said no so I then asked if she knew the correct procedure to clean a carpet again no. I talked her through, asking lots of relevant questions and basically striking up a rapport. At the end I qouted £65. How quickly can you do it came the reply.

In short (and this is a major generalisation) the Yell callers are doers (with an element of thinker in them) this is why they use yell. This balance means they make decisions quickly if they hear something that makes sense and has value. This tel-con was a classic example albeit for a small job.

Shaun

I always try to steer them in the direction of me coming out to quote onsite by asking where they live and telling them I'm in that area this afternoon or whenever, but some are price shopping and will just say 'I'm just wanting a rough idea of cost' as they put it, thats when I struggle, this is something that comes with experience I guess.

I am by no means a natural salesman & if anyone out there wants to offer a workshop for telesales techniques I would be first in the line. ( Pete hint hint  :) )

How many Yell areas are you advertising on Pete?

Hi Paul

To do it properly I would need at least 3-4 hours and thats too long for a session at the ccdo. Also, I am at the arse end of England so it would be difficult for many to get here.
