Fan Jets
« on: May 27, 2008, 10:46:37 am »
Sorry this has been asked before no doubt,  but should I get fan jets fitted instead of pencil?  Will this improve the rinsing?

Also, can they be fitted to a double trim brush?

Thanks,

J

You can't get any more accurate than a fan jet, anywhere the brush goes the water is there as well.  With a pencil jet supposing you want to rinse the edge of the frame, you would have to lift the brush off the glass and aim water up to the edge of the frame.  Supposing you didn't clean the frames and only done the glass, then you would have to go over the frame to get water on the edge of the glass.  Supposing you wanted to waste time and energy rinsing with the brush off the glass, then you can still do this more effectively with a fan jet as the water is coming out the jet under more pressure breaking through the beads more easily, and flushing whatever is on the glass, with more pressure to the bottom of the glass.   Some may say that the water on a fan pray will spray the top frames bringing down dirt, but not if you watch where the water is spraying, and don't let the spray go up too far.

X Line, what make of fan sprays did you try, and where did you get them from??  I am just curios as to why someone could try them for the day and not like them.  Now I know many people on here has tried them and not liked them and I am just can't understand for the life of me why not.  I am starting to wonder if it may be the type used.   I wouldn't mind getting a hold of some different types to try them out.  I know Cleantech do the same type as me, so apart from them anyone else.

I bought a brush with fan jets fitted and had loads of trouble with them not fireing in a line one went up one went down, tryed turning them and redriling the holes but no joy.
If IMO you could get them to fan a line they would be the best hands down.

might give them a go again though so how much for a set of your ones peter??
 cheers joe

I know everyone is different , and like I always say the world would be a funny place if we all liked the same thing.  I don't think it is the same though as the trolley verses van mount scenario.  I think it is more like the squeegee verses the chamois, yes the chamois cleans the windows to the same extent, but a lot more time and effort is involved.  I still think most people prefer the pencil jet, as most people are given them when they buy a brush or system.

The jets themselves are very cheap but it depends how you fit them.  I personally use a 6mm bulkhead connector to fit onto the brush, and the jets fit inside them.  You can however do it the cheap way and slide a 8mm outside diameter piece of semi rigid hose over the jet itself, but the holes in the brush have to be drilled properly to make it work.

What with the whats?  :D

I don't know?  Just asked for fan jets to fit my brush (From Killis)  They said I'd have to drill out the holes to fit them.

Do they screw in?

Well I use bulkhead connectors to put the jets in.  What I do is drill out the whole slightly smaller than the diameter of the bulkhead connector, and then it self taps into the hole.  The jets now slide into one end of the quick connect on the bulkhead connector, and the tube fits in the other side.  Much easier to take the jet out for cleaning, or take the pipe out to renew.

The cleantech ones don`t fan aswell as yours do in the video clip, there more like a heavy sprinkle than a fan.I like the fan in the video better.

To be fair the brush on the video was only to show how the brush worked, and was connected straight up to an outside tap.  You should get an even distribution though, and under pressure.

Well I received the fan jets today.

I fitted them next to the already installed pencil jets so that I can choose which ones as and when.

Tried them out very briefly.. not sure what they'll be like but will be giving them a go soon.

In a word "No". IMO they offer less accuracy and less pressure.
