Hey Groundhog,
Thanks for those clips. I was in B&Q today looking for a Harris pole but couldnt find it. To be honest I couldnt remember the brand name! Good to see it in action. What size is the one in the video? Did you get it in B&Q? and how much??

One more question................Did your son like the Knock knock joke?

Glad you liked the clips mate! The one in the video is 5 metres and I purchased it in B&Q, and as jeff said it is £14.99 (a real bargain!!)

And yes my son liked the knock knock joke - a lot!!! and so did all his mates, I'm not sure that the teachers were so impressed though!!!!

Ask at the customer services, I couldn't see them and asked one of there little orange helpers, he took me to the wrong section and said they will be getting some more in the following week :

I went home and thought about it, so phoned customer services up, I found out they had 7 in stock but they were to big to go into the section so they kept them upstairs, don't ask the little orange men ask at there desk so they can check availability on there computers.

I'm with you on this one, Groundhog.

It's a great thread, but a lot of people seem to have gone off on a tangent.

It wasn't about speed or technique or "yours is too small to do my work," it was simply to show that the Harris pole does the job in may situations.

You did that admirably well and should be congratulated, not castigated!

Thanks Wally, its great to get some positive feedback!!    I was driven to post the videos on this thread by some of the comments made on the slx thread, saying that the Harris pole could not be used for window cleaning ect ect. I think that I have proved that it can!!!

I will give it a go next week mate, I know that the videos are not that clear! They were made on a small digital camera, which was balanced on my van door!!

It certainly can be used for w/c and today for me proved it, it made me a few bob.

We all know its not the be all and end all of poles, but when were getting charged hundreds of pounds for poles and this ones getting knocked out at less than £15

I would recommend it to anyone who's on a low budget and just starting out in wfp, if in the future they want to get a more but not necessary better pole then so be it.

Not as far as I know Ian, but I think it is jeff who has posted how to increase the length of a harris pole.

No dont put tape on, I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow and post them on here for you to see.
Its the same type of heatshrink you put on cables only this stuff is big.

go to this site and have a look at it. w w w.heatshrink-online.co.uk, very fast delivery, you need to look at the 50.8mm Diameter and buy x4 half meters to fit the harris pole, £7.35 you'll have some spare but I'm keeping it for any repairs.
Excellent insulation and grip.

Thats one of the things I like so much about the harris pole, that it is nice and thin and fits in my hands just right!

I may start selling converted harris poles on ebay, I bet I could get 100 quid for one!!

My eldest daughter loves it, she just couldn't get on with my XTel, today was the first time she used it with the heatshrink on it and she's well pleased with it.

Like we say if they only last a few months, we can chuck them away at that price.

I recon you can get more than £100 if you wrap it in heatshrink, you can start a new trend with the groundhog harris pole

harris used to do a 4 section pole which was 7 mtrs you will most likely need to go into a specilest decorating shop for this .                                                             groundhog your too slow mate lol , theres nothing wrong with the harris poles , have you not tryed the yellow handle harris 2 section  1 with a push spring clamp these are allso £15 from b&q these are not a bad pole for low level work .

I will have a look for that 7 metre pole Dave, that would be really usefull! I saw the shorter yellow handle poles, they looked good, but I like to use the same pole for ups and downs. As for me being slow, your right I was going slow in those clips, I will post one of me going at full speed next week!

Shame I didn't know of this when I was trad. I did pay £76 for my Unger 20" pole. Should have gone with an Harris, still I think the Unger is a bit better, but boy would it have made a difference in my start up cost.

Tim the harris pole is a far superior pole compared to the unger!!
I converted an unger pole into a wfp pole a year or so ago, and it was useless compared to the harris!!

Thanks for the Videos Grounhog, there great. I love people putting this type of thing up!! thanks. As regards the pole, well for a start you cant really compare it to an SL-X as the SL-X is a 25ft pole and the Harris is a 16ft pole. Even at 25ft the SL-X is stiffer, and quicker to close the clamps too.

But I think its fair to compare it to a xtel 17ft or something similar, and it looks just a bit less stiff than a 17ft xtel, but will probably far out last the xtel! So for £15 what a bargain

The idea of the SL-X is to have a ground floor pole that can do 3rd floor stuff too. The Harris isnt capable of this and you would need to swap poles to do higher stuff. Thats why the SL-X is worth the money, because over a few months all that time saving pays for itself.

And even though its 9ft longer than the Harris, it doesnt weight alot more than it, Luke
