I`m not using the SLX at the moment it`s annoying me,i`ll wait for the new brush before i get it out again.Using it at height with any standard brush will eventually ruin it.

my £15 B&Q pole

I live pretty far from B&Q, but your enthusiasm has rubbed off on me. I really want to see one, when I next go near a B&Q I will check it out. Describe what it looks like and what size it is? Luke

The pole is made of alliminium and is silver in colour, it has black clamps and it is a 3 section pole, total length 5 metres (Jeff Brimble explains how to modify it into a longer pole on another thread) And for £15 it is fantstic value for money!! I really don't mean to dis your pole Luke, I just can't see that it is worth paying out that kind of money, when there is a viable alternative available for a few quid! Try it out, I think you will be surprised at how good it is!!  :)

Hi DJ! Sorry to be rude about your Simon Cowell trousers earlier!! ;D All that you have written above is absolutely true, and it is how I run my business, I target the best work that I can get, charge the highest prices that the market will allow, and keep my costs to a minimum!!! Good business sense in my book mate!!!!  ;)

A year ago i was telling everyone how brilliant a fishing pole was for £60 and although they are good they don't come close to a quality pole unfortunately. You can't beat telescopic for speed and you can't beat carbon for stiffness/lightness. No doubt the decoraters pole does the job but in a years time i doubt you will be so impressed. You usually get what you pay for in this world. The SLX is that good that i prefer it over my S2 for three storeys.

There is no unifrom way to run your business and so many things vary between people, their dislikes, likes, area they live in, budget, upbringing, race, religion, etc etc

This means that no business is identical and so many people love what others hate.....marmite!!!

It doesnt mean the SL-X is better. It means its better for you, and of course you can try and persuade people its better for them but they wont all listen, because the Harris pole is really the best thing for groundhogs business, because what he wanted out of a pole is fullfilled by the Harris, Luke

Hi All...well my SL-X arrived here in the land of cloggs and cheese 2 days ago...took it out yesterday and I the pole was great used it all day without reverting to my small poles for downstairs windows....ok so the clamps take some getting used to...but my biggest surprise was the Bently brush I ordered with it...I have been using Vikan both oval/flocked & rectangle mono and I have to say I on first impressions really like the Bently..I do not imagine it will last as long as the Vikan but it felt good using it and getting the bristles into nooks and crannies...and felt good on the glass too....

Sorry if this has already been mentioned ...but have been without internet for the past week...just got it back.

Cheers
Dave.

Had some first hand experience with the harris pole, and even though I appreciate your feedback sometimes groundhog, the harris pole is seriously rubbish, even the unger aluminiums are better, it was floppy, bad clamps, quite long when closed. Yea, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for.

So yes, breakfast lunch and dinner like I said.

I think you must have been looking at the wrong pole mate!!! the pole is about 6' when closed, its very light, very stiff and in my opinion the clamps are excellent and very easy to use!!! I've used unger poles and this is miles better!!! From what you have said above I seriously doubt that you have ever used a harris pole to clean windows with!! I use mine everyday and wouldn't change it for anything!!!

The label said Harris pole 5m.

Yes it is quite light, I must agree, which was nice, but the locking cones on the Unger are sturdier, I can know, because I have a 20', and whilst it's not as floppy as an Xtel, compared to the SLX it's quite floppy, and the closed length is not as practical as the SL-X. I just don't see how you comment on the SL-X when you've never used it. Seriously, it's in a completely different league. Just give it a go, you will be pleasantly surprised. :)

Sure if I had a low budget I would have gone with a harris pole, or something similar, but I have the budget to invest in good quality tools, that will last me ages, and trust me, I'm sure that I don't make as much money as you do, I don't have a full round yet, but still I will earn my money back with it.

To each his own I guess, I wouldn't be that unhappy with the Harris pole, but I would if I compared it to cleaning with the SL-X for a day.

Just try using the harris pole for cleaning windows for a couple of days and you will quickly realise that the clamps are excellent, incredibly quick and easy to use and so far they seem incredibly robust!
I haven't commented on the sl-x, I have simply tried to help other window cleaners not to be quite so easily parted with their money, when a more than adequate alternative is available for a few quid!!!

My harris pole paid for itself within the first 20 minutes of me using it, and I know for a fact that using an sl-x would not make the slightest difference to how quickly I can work or the quality of the clean!! that is why I will not be wasting my money!!!!  ;D

ive just been on gardiners website, and it says that the slx weighs 1540g and is 5ft 7" closed.

ive a harris pole that i have set up in the van with a soft flocked brush on, which i use on older painted windows, as the brush not so aggresive to the paint.
i dont use it all day just on a few older windows.
imo its a very usefull tool to have at a very small cost, im sure there is no comparison to the slx, but its not trying to compete.

Bentley works well on the SLX but doesn't have a lot of scrubbing power for first cleans and tends to get splatted against the glass due to the stiffness of the pole. I'm very happy with a Vikan mono at the moment untill Alex's new brush comes out.

Thanks Steve,
so approximately, SLx 1540g  5ft 7" but reaches higher.

        Unger is   1302g    6ft 6"   5.5
        Harris is    1156g    6ft 2"  5m

So the £15 harris is considerably lighter than the £400+ SLx!!!  :o  ;D

haven't tried the pole but have used ionics, vikan and bentley brushes. I think i read on here that they last about 6 months or so. I might be wrong??
But what a crap brush when they have had a bit of use.
I checked a 1st clean the last time i used it (since dumped) and what a terrible result. Loads of marks that were on the window that should have come off easily.
Went over again with a vikan and was perfect. I don't have any work over 30 feet and would rather have a heavier brush that does the job.
I wouldn't recommend a bentley to anyone except maybe on maintenance cleans that have always come up good before.
