Squeaky, what sort of photography do you do?

My youngest son is off today because his teachers are on strike but I just lock him in the airing cupboard and go out anyway. He's alright, I leave him some biscuits and he's got his Ipod.

(Actually, he's gone up to London with his grandmother before anyone starts phoning Social Services)

Photography or golf for me.

I'm off this morning, but no time for either of them.

My daughter's teachers are striking for the day, so I'm here until my mother can have her at about 12.
Off to work then, but I never get into when it's not a full day.

i dont even bother if it gets much past 12, i just write the day off and spend some time doing what i want

I've got a day off today, going shooting at Bisley. Nothing like it for recharging the batterys.
Its important, I feel, to have something in your life apart from work. All work and no play etc.

What do other members of the forum do?

And keep it clean.

Well I went for a lovely stroll around Kew Gardens recently.  They're constructing a "tree walk" that should be open in May so I will go again later in the Summer.  I also like to go and watch banger racing sometimes and, once in a while, I go to a football match when the local football team are at home.

Sorting out my receipts from last year for my tax return  :( :(. Wish I was diving/climbing or jet skiing too! What a boring life I have!!!

What I really like doing in my spare time is mountain biking, going to gigs, playing guitar and spending time with my beautiful new wife and wonderful son!

Rebreathers are just another way of diving it's one of those trad v wfp type of things.... have a look at Rebreatherworld .com

Its not hard..but is very different....

Would I reccommend it...yes...I used to do alot of 60 - 90 meter diving in Thailand and the Philipines....and it worked out at around a dollar a breath...taking into account gear, gas etc...so rebreathers made diving better...for me

Is it cheap...no...once you have your setup...then it's cheap..will you ever get you money back no....my rebreather has these words engraved into it by the maker...."This unit may kill you at any time". !!!

I'd love to do it for a living, but very very hard to make any decent money out of it these days.

Since the advent of digital everyone's a photographer.
If you're good at editing you can make any shot look good.

Short of setting up a stall in the market, there's not a lot you can do with them.
Even then, people will stop and look and say "Ooh, isn't that lovely", but there's a world of difference between that and them actually paying £75 or so and walking off with it.

Press work is crap now too, as everyone's got a camera on their phone, so there's no exclusive scoops.

A picture of a singer fighting outside a club may have fetched £20,000 in the past.
Now it's virtually worthless, as the punters will be pointing their phones at it.
Newspapers are very low resolution, so a phone shot is good enough.

Weddings aren't bad money, but we're overrun with top guys around here.
Besides, taking people pictures doesn't really interest me.

I'm still looking at ways to make money though.
At least this job is flexible enough to make a start in something else. :)

Bird watching (NOT twitching - different thing altogether)

Every walk with the dogs has the promise of something different - and if you combine it with digiscoping (taking digital photos through a telescope) you can keep a record of all the unusual and beautiful feathered creatures you encounter. (Note I avoided the obvious noun - knowing the mentality of some on here ::))

Maybe you should investigate it, Squeaky - it might open up a whole new range of subjects for you ;D)

Dave.

Id have thought it would be more accurate for the engraving to read 'incorrect usage of this unit is likely to kill you at any time'

I use to go shooting at bisley. I use to get paid for it being in the battalion shooting team with a sniper rifle. Good fun. Tried using a colt 45 as well, you should try a magnum, the recoil is wicked.

I've dived the famous blue hole near the Turnreefe Islands in the Caribean, I'd love to do it again as it was a thermal incline. Could only go down to 39metres. Plenty of sharks down there.

Rog.  If you were a pro photographer, you would probably get the sort of customers that would expect to sit still for 30 seconds while the photo was still being made and they would want you to hold a lamp up in the air while you peered through the lens with a dark cloth over your head.   :)

personally I like nothing more than snorting a kilo of coke and basically going on a complete bender for 4 or 5 days at a time.
I've never been to bed with an ugly bird but I've woken up with loads!
